VIACOM vs YOUTUBE

Have you seen all the stuff about VIACOM and YouTube recently? It
looks kinds scary for us musicians. If you haven't see what's out
there I'd like to invite you to take a look. Search for "VIACOM" on
YouTube or Google and you'll find plenty of info...

Basically, YouTube has been order by a judge to hand over all of the
YouTube view logs to VIACOM. This means that VIACOM could start coming
after any of us the users for several things. The one that is most
concerning is the possibility of getting slapped for cover tunes.
While YouTube has agreements with most of the major labels that allow
us to do covers legally there is a chance that VIACOM may try to use
this data against us. I doubt it will come to all the doom that is
prophesied by conspiracy theorists. But do I think it's important that
we begin to unionize so that we can stand together in the face of
things like this that might threaten us...

This was one of the main reasons for forming a discussion group. We
want to share our music online and it's scary to think that some
monstrous lawsuit and bad politics might take away that freedom. I'm
curious for your thoughts on this...
