ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Youth Speaks Seattle, the Northwest's premier literary arts organization for youth, fosters the union of art, literacy and empowerment in the lives of young people. Presented as part of Bumbershoot's Arts Integration Project with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Staceyann Chin is a full-time artist, iconic performer and author of The Other Side of Paradise, her brave, lyrical and candid memoir of growing up in Jamaica. An out poet and activist since 1998, Staceyann has won slam titles the world over, performed a one-woman show on Broadway and been nominated for a Tony Award for co-writing Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam on Broadway.
Prometheus Brown is a spoken word poet and emcee (aka Geologic) for the iconic Seattle hip-hop group Blue Scholars. Brown is on a never-ending attempt to sift through the sensory overload of pop culture. Brown breaks it down like only a radical 2nd generation Filipino living in America who survived the Reagan-Bush dynasty and raps for a living can.
