greetings friends!

we've been getting a lot of emails asking how to get involved with yss.  so i decided to refresh everyone's memory on weekly/monthly happenings.  also, i decided to attach a list of upcoming events and opportunities!  since i'm trying not to overload email inboxes, we will do this every two weeks.  without any further interruption, here it is:

YOUTH SPEAKS SEATTLE:

    - WEEKLY TUESDAY planning meetings at the office on beacon hill from 7 to 8pm.  if you want to get involved in the inner workings of youth speaks seattle, this is for you!
    - WEEKLY THURSDAY writing circles at the seattle central library in the teen room on the 3rd floor from 5 to 7pm.  got writers block? come to writing circle!  writing circles are open to all, and are facilitated by poet mentors and youth themselves!

    - MONTHLY OPEN MIC every 3rd sunday (12/20) at cafe allegro in the u-district (ne 42nd & 15th ave ne, in the alley behind magus books).  sign ups at 6:30, starts at 7pm.  performers of all arts are welcome! if you want to sign up, make sure to arrive by 6:30, the list will get cut at 20 people.  also: please keep performances limited to 5 min. thanks!
    - MONTHLY SLAM every 2nd thursday (12/10) at electric tea garden on capitol hill (14th ave & e pike, next to artificial limb co).  sign ups at 7:30, starts at 8pm.  3 rounds; 3:30 time limit. first 10 poets, ages 13-20 to sign up will compete to win tix to the GRAND SLAM in march 2010!  this is a dope opportunity for slammers to practice to compete in the annual slam series.

    - last but not least... OUR ANNUAL SLAM SERIES!!!
        - FRIDAY 12/18/2009***FIRST PRELIMINARY SLAM.  this is the 1st of our annual slam series! youth compete to earn a spot on the slam team that represents seattle at brave new voices, the international poetry slam festival!  please see ATTACHED FLYERS for details.

OTHER DOPE EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES
:

    - wednesday 11/25 seattle poetry slam's annual haiku slam, featuring national slam champion and past bent mentor blair!  this is all ages and requires 20 haikus to enter.  visit http://www.seattlepoetryslam.org/ for more details.
    - friday 12/4 and saturday 12/5 university of washington poetry slam team showcase.  this ridiculously ill all-female squadron includes rose mcaleese, shelby handler (of denver's minor disturbance), mary lambert, shanay salas, and robin park.   this is the first year seattle to send a team to acui's cupsi (collegiate slam).  this year, it's in boston.  plane tix aren't cheap! please help them get there by attending these shows (there will also be two in january).  see attached flyer for details.

    - seattle young people's project paid internship application deadline 12/14 "Seattle Young People's Project is proud to announce a new paid internship opportunity for youth ages 13-18.  Are you tired of adults talking about young people’s struggles and how they relate to them?  Want to get youth perspectives out there? This job requires you to be a community researcher/story-teller discovering and writing about young people’s realities. Listen to diverse youth share their stories. Go into your community, talk to friends, family, and neighbors about issues in their lives; find the roots of their struggles and then help make CHANGE.
