Youth Speaks Seattle Information

happy gregorian new year!
hope everyone had a wonderful relaxing amazing holiday and stayed warm :] here are some updates from yss:
1) thanks to everyone who came out to our 1st preliminary slam last month at the electric tea garden! and patrick and dj shonuff for hosting us and djing! christabel escarez for featuring! all the fam who spit, judged, and volunteered. yall are the reason yss is still going.
2) this month is packed full of events and opportunities for youth to spit!
+ as usual, we have our weekly writing circle on thursdays from 5-7pm at the seattle central library (3rd floor in the teen room), facilitated by accomplished adult and youth poets. when you have writer's block go to writing CIRCLE.
+ we also have our monthly slam on 2nd thursdays at 8pm (sign ups at 730) at electric tea garden. it's a great opportunity for youth poets to practice performance and prep for preliminary slams! mentors will accompany youth at the writing circle TO the slam TOO! ages 13-20, 3 rounds, 3:30 time limit. winner gets tickets to the grand slam in march at the moore theatre!
+ of course, our monthly open mic on 3rd sundays at 7pm (sign ups at 630) at cafe allegro. this is open to ALL performing artists and feature local youth poets and musicians!
+ and last but not least...our preliminary slam series! this month, we are holding the 2ND PRELIM SLAM at youngstown cultural arts center on friday 1/15! sign ups at 630, slam starts at 7pm. qualifiers will continue on at the GRAND SLAM on march 19th at the moore theatre, and may qualify to compete at brave new voices, the international youth poetry slam festival this summer in los angeles!
3) and lastly, this friday 1/8 at richard hugo house. seattle collegiate slam team fundraiser featuring TARA HARDY, bent institute founder and seattle poetry slam champion! admission is $10 // doors at 7pm. all proceeds directly benefit the team in getting them to nationals! please see AMAZING flyer attached for more details.
