Earth Trusteeship Forum

The Earth Trusteeship Forum was organized by Asia-Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand from 19-21 July 2019.

Earth Trusteeship Platform is an independent platform for visionary and professional exchanges on Nature Rights, Global Citizenship and reclaiming “the commons”. The maxim of Earth Trusteeship simply states: “all global citizens are equal trustees of the Earth, in the interest of the wellbeing of future generations”.

Earth Trusteeship initiatives try to addresses the urgent need for co-designing paradigm shift with a critical and holistic perspective on (international) environmental law and ecosystem restoration.

Rise of Trusteeship, Youth and Jai Jagat

Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave were leading lights of Trusteeship. The concept of Jai Jagat had emerged during their life time as they considered world as one large family. Jai jagat means Victory to the world. Thus Trusteeship synergizes with jai jagat song which call to embrace the world with the love and compassion

Possessives in human nature is against the spirit of trusteeship.  Trusteeship can’t be achieved without love and care for each other.  We have to inculcate ‘King of kindness’ by having a large heart and embrace everybody.

Currently youth is in the passive state. They are looking for opportunity to express. He highlighted the importance of using non-formal spaces for youth leadership to emerge. Non-formal engagement, without agenda meeting. We need to give space for thinking about future and give youth freedom to act on it.

The power of youth can be harnessed only through their participation. Leadership emerges only when enable eco-system is created. This new leadership

Trusteeship as value can be galvanized further through the Power of voluntarism; Power of the youth and Power of Solidarity.

Stressing on active nonviolence, we believe that between Silence and violence there is space for active nonviolence. There is need is to activating silence majority if we are to achieve our goal.

Corporate Sector and Social sector are at cross roads. There is need for redefining their inter relationship keeping nature rights at the centre and measuring our acts through peace lens. Mahatma Gandhi concept of Trusteeship can be guiding force to redefine it to bring ethics in development.

At the Earth Trusteeship Forum, We were happy to see how youth are trying to contribute in making a better place to live. Jai Jagat is really once in life time opportunity. We are the generation who has not seen Mahatma Gandhi. With so much of violence /injustice around us, Jai Jagat offers hope. We call Jai Jagat as a wake-up call to respond to the deepening economic, social and environmental crisis. The campaign is an urgent appeal for people to transform and achieve one planet one people.

To experience Gandhi values by engaging ourselves is important. There are many ways that one can engage. One way is direct participation in the March (Other than India, other Asians countries are missing) .Those who cannot participate directly can promote Jai Jagat on various social media platforms, and engage in dialogue on the four pillars of Jai Jagat 2020: Eradication Of Poverty, Eliminating Social Exclusion, Acting On The Climate Crisis, Halting Conflict And Violence.

Importantly, what we understood in the trusteeship forum the importance of promotion and acting on Trusteeship. We can promote endorsement of Earth charter by various stakeholders. Secondly, on Oct 24, 2020 there is a plan to bring amendment to the Trusteeship Council in UN. Signature campaign can strengthen it.{The Forum was attended by Aneesh (Ekta Parishad) & Vijay Bharatiya(SAPA)}
