India’s largest network of urban and rural youth
The 16th National Youth
Festival (NYF) held in Udaipur, Rajasthan from 12 to
16 January 2011. The energy,
enthusiasm and vibrance marked the inaugural ceremony
on 12 January 2011 and inaugurated by Vice-President of India Mr. Hamid Ansari.

Apart from the Vice-President, Governor of Rajasthan Mr Shivraj Patil, Chief Minister Mr. Ashok Gehlot, Union minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mr. M S Gill and Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mr P. P. Patil also attended the opening ceremony.
The inaugural
ceremony marked its beginning with a parade by contingents from various states
of the country. The
participants exhibited through their presentation a diversity of culture and
costumes with pleasing musical numbers. There were dances, acrobatics and even
display of traditional arms.
After the march-past, Mr.
Hamid Ansari presented the
National Youth Awards to 21 persons. The award has been instituted by the
Ministry of Youth Affairs for those who achieve excellence in the field of
national or social service.
In
his address, the Vice-President said the NYF in its 16th year has emerged as a
leading national festival where the youth of the country assemble annually to
share their experiences. He said while witnessing a show like this, the real
picture of the country with its vast diversities could be seen on a single
canvas.
Chief
Minister Mr. Ashok Gehlot
said the youth should understand there was no place for terrorism in a country
where people lived peacefully despite religious and cultural
diversities.
Union
minister, Mr M. S. Gill also addresses the youth.
The festival included the ‘Suvichar’ a interactive session where various personalities present their views and share their experience. This year topic of deliberate was “Sabse Pehle Bharat” (India first).
Dr. S. N. Subba Rao (Chairman of ICYO and Director of National Youth Project), Jayati Chandra, Secretary, Department of North-East Region (DoNER), Former Test cricketer Kirti Azad and skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, both members of the Lok Sabha are among the panel of speakers on 14th January. Other members of the panel include gold medalist at the Commonwealth and Asiad, Ashwini, and athletes Sini Jose, Manjeet Kaur and Mandeep Cheema. This programme was organized by National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development.
Youth fest ends on a high
The five-day cultural extravaganza of the NYF was concluded on evening of 16 January with a magnificent closing ceremony.
Noted Gandhian thinker Dr.
S N Subbarao (Chairman ICYO and
Director NYP) presented Bharat Ki Santan - ‘Mera Bharat’ programme in all Indian languages with a presentation by
participants from all participating states. With this programme, he conveyed a strong message of unity in
diversity. “This is the only nation with so much diversity and harmony
co-existing together,” Dr Rao said.
Earlier, the prize distribution ceremony presided by Technical Education Minister, Mahendrajeet Singh Malaviya, Minister for State Babulal Garasia and Principal Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Rohit Kumar.
The closing ceremony exhibited a blend of culture and show of adventure
sports. It started with the jumping of Indian Air Force para-droppers from the
7,000 feet making various formations.

of Youth Organizations (ICYO) is a registered non-profit, non-governmental
network organization, committed in developing areas of mutual cooperation and
understanding among different youth voluntary agencies, youth groups, clubs and
individuals working in the field of youth welfare in India.
ICYO functions as an umbrella organization
of youth NGOs in India. It's family consists of
over 411 organizations spread in 124 districts of 26 states from different
corners of India.
