Fourth session of the Committee on Social Development discuss implementation of SDGs in Asia and the Pacific
The fourth session of the Committee on Social Development of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will be held on 28-30 March 2016. inBsngkok. The Committee will discuss the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Asia and the Pacific. The Committee will review the social development issues and challenges and consideration of building capacity and adopting innovative approaches to strengthen the social dimension of the SDGs.

UNESCAP Asia-Pacific Workshop on Building Capacity to Develop Youth Policies
UNESCAP Asia-Pacific Workshop on Building Capacity to Develop Youth Policies will be held from 29 to 30 March 2016, in conjunction with the fourth session of the Committee on Social Development. This Workshop is part of an interregional development project entitled “Strengthening the capacity of Governments in the ESCAP, ECA andESCWA regions to respond to the needs of youth in formulating inclusive and sustainable development policies”.
The aim of the Workshop is to review the findings of a regional analytical report examining challenges and opportunities in the school-to-work transition and also to identify good practices and lessons learned related to youth policies which will serve as material for an online interactive Youth Policy Toolbox. During the meeting, a prototype of the Toolbox will be presented for discussion and feedback from participants.
Mr Ravi Narayan and Mr Ravi Sharma will participate from Indian Committee of Youth Organizations (ICYO).
SAARC Youth Meet held in Kathmandu
The two-day 'SAARC Regional Dialogue held in Kathmandu, on Promoting Youth Participation in the Implementation of SDGs' aims at exploring ways to promote effective youth engagement mechanisms at national and sub-national levels, that would serve as guiding framework for each country's development between now and 2030.
"We are delighted to host the SAARC Youth Dialogue in Nepal," said Nepalese Minister for Youth and Sports Satya Narayan Mandal while inaugurating the event in Kathmandu."Youth in the SAARC region have similar problems, opportunities and challenges. Poverty and youth unemployment in particular are noted as significant challenges," he said."These problems can be solved through the development of youth skills, entrepreneurship, leadership, and also by increasing youth participation."
A total of 19 youths and 13 government representatives from the SAARC member-states are participated in the dialogue which was hosted by the Nepal government in collaboration with SAARC Secretariat, and with technical and financial support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
National Integartion Youth Camp held in Kharsia
National Youth Project organized the National Integration Youth Camp at Kharsia, Raigard, Chhatishgarh from 26 February to 2 March 2016. 600 youth from 18 states of India attended the camp. The campers had the opportunity to understand and learn community living, participate in Sadbhana rally, shramdan (labour donation) etc.
Govt extends scheme to train J&K youths by 4 years
The Modi government has extended the duration of the Udaan scheme, an initiative aimed at training and improving employability of J&K youth for private sector jobs, till 2019-20.The initial approval of the scheme, launched in 2013, was till 2015-16.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its approval for extension of time period of the scheme `Special Industry Initiative for J&K Udaan'. It is expected that the target of the scheme, to train and enhance employability of 40,000 graduates, post-graduates and three-year engineering diploma holders, will be achieved by 2019-20.
Gujrat Govt to build outreach with 25,000 youth centres
The state government has decided to celebrate 'YuvaVikasVarsh' (2016-17) by building 25,000 Vivekananda YuvaKendras (VYK), from where an army of youth ambassadors will spread the word of state achievements and welfare schemes.Sources said the government plans to have a VYK in every village, municipal ward, and corporation ward in the state. With each VYK targeting to have between 10 and 50 members, the step, ahead of the 2017 assembly elections in the state, may prove vital in swinging youth sentiment, especially in wake of the recent youth unrest over Patidar quota stir and other reasons.

cooperation and understanding among different youth voluntary agencies, youth
groups, clubs and individuals working in the field of youth welfare in

over 550 organizations spread in 124 districts of 26 states from
different corners of India.
