On the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, The Center for
Youth development (CYDA) Pune and The FTII Student Council will be
dedicating an evening in memory of lives lost due to nuclear
disasters, in order to spread awareness on the facts of Nuclear
Energy.

The Chernobyl disaster which happened on 26th April 1986 at the
Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, northern Ukraine caused the loss of
thousands of lives and spewed large quantities of radioactive
contamination into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western
Russia and Europe. Relocation proved a “deeply traumatic experience”
for some 350,000 people moved out of the affected areas.

The evening reflects upon the strong protest against the construction
of the 9900-Mega Watt Nuclear Power Project at Jaitapur, an eco-
sensitive and earthquake prone area on coastal Maharashtra despite
protests by villagers and various Environmental Activists and
Scientists. The event is also in light of the ongoing Fukushima
disaster which has spread harmful radiation as far as Tokyo,
contaminating food and agriculture calling for mass evacuation. The
latest nuclear crisis has raised serious questions internationally on
the reliability and safety of nuclear energy.

In remembrance of the victims of nuclear disasters and to spread
awareness on atomic power and it's current situation in India, CYDA
and the FTII Student Council will be organizing on the 25th of April
from 6pm onwards an event at FTII campus with the following program
