Taking Peace in the ‘Right’ Direction
Invitation to a lecture by eminent human rights activist Maja Daruwala.
Open Space warmly invites you to the second lecture in our series entitled 'Keeping The Peace'. This lecture will be by Ms. Maja Daruwala, Director Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, New Delhi.
Does law have a role in peace-building?
Should laws be invoked as tools in conflict transformation?
What are the ethical dilemmas and practical challenges in operating on the premise of ‘peace based on justice’?
Does the ‘rule of law’ lead to a peaceful society?
Why is good governance central to sustainable peace?
Ms. Daruwala will speak about the role of law and good governance in engendering and nurturing peace in times where ethnic tensions, border issues, terrorism, violent civil unrest and separatist movements seem to be gathering greater momentum and corruption and failure of governance aggravating the situation further. She will also discuss principles and frameworks for peace-building, drawing from her vast experience of human rights work across the Commonwealth nations.
