Hey everyone!

So people in the water movement, especially Ania from Global Water Partnership, are asking about our group website. They want to be able to link others to our website and our group, show off our work, and work with us in campaigns, etc. I talked to Kyle about the protocol, and he said it's fine. We don't need to go through YOUNGO to do so.
What we do need is:
1) that we as a group are cool with it
2)That once the group is made, we all have a say in it.
3)That once the group is made, we make the UNFCCC youth list aware of it.
Kyle also said that "Ideally it should be pages off of the youthclimate.org site (you could still get a separate domain name and redirect people to your pages, of course). But if you want to make a totally separate website you can."

So my questions are:
1) Does anyone have any objection to starting this website? My idea was that it would be a site about our group, our mission, and what we have done and what we are doing/planning. If anyone has any objections we'd love to hear them, and if not, we should plan what the site should start with. It can be modified along the way to reflect what we are doing.

2) Does anyone IN the group have website design experience? That would be really awesome :). Otherwise I'm sure we all know some people.

Happy New Year everyone

Hi Adam,

Glad to hear from you about the progress for the water policy group to
have a website.

I'm very much in support of this.

Hey all
The idea of having an individual website is great. Building a website needs some fundamental arrangements though, like who gets to control the website, whether its going to be free or whether its going to have its own domain address etc. Once we come to a unanimous decision I think the work of the website should be started. :)

So basically I have no experience building a website. Not entirely sure of the implications of having its own domain address or not. Which would make more sense for us?

Regarding control of content, my idea was that there would probably be one or 2 of us with primary responsibility for the site. That way if something goes wrong or we need to add something, we dont send out a stream of emails asking for volunteers, but we know who to go to. It just makes things quicker and easier. And of course, after anyone modifies the site, or writes a new article, there should be a group notification.

But we would all have input on what to put on the site, and would be able to veto content if we had strong objections. We could also link our own relevant works on water, or have a water blog, etc.

What do we think about this, and what kind of website should we set up?

Hi all,

Firstly, wish you all a very happy new year full of positive changes!

Adam, while I think having a website is a great idea, I feel that it would be better if we use the existing youthclimate.org website as a platform. We can have a seperate page for water and subpages too I think. The reason is, developing a website and maintaining it isnt an easy task especially when we all are in different parts of the world and have access to internet at different levels.

Also I think it would be wise and strategic to use an existing platform and help develop it more cos for one thing it would be easier for people to go to one website and remember one website rather than trying to remember different ones. After all we are all working for the same goal and especially since water is a cross-cutting issue I strongly feel that we should have a separate page in the existing youthclimate.org website.

Just my thoughts but I'd be happy to help and give my input with any decision.

Best wishes,

Aisha

I agree with Aisha, I don't feel that a new website is essential. Using a YOUNGO page seems much more appropriate for us.

Really happy to talk about this more with the group of course!

Hello!

Sorry about being quiet recently- been super busy with exams!

I agree with Aisha on using the youthclimate as a platform- I think maintaining the link with them is beneficial, as opposed to going and making a website out on our own. In addition to our Facebook Group we could make a Fcebook Page and Twitter account, which I would be happy to do? I think  this would be a really good way for us to engage with other NGOs and important people in the water sector!

I hope everyone is well!!!
