Hi everyone

Welcome to the policy working group on girls and young women!
I think it's about time we started some discussion on what we hope for
our impact to be at COP!
here are a few thoughts/questions that I have. Please join the
discussion, and let's get some ideas going before we all meet at the
COP/COY in just over a week's time.

1. Last year we had some key messages about girls and young women - I
have taken last years and added a few bits and the document has been
posted on this site. Please add your comments/thoughts to this
discussion
2. Where should we be concentrating our lobbying efforts? What
specific 'asks' do we have as a policy group? It has been suggested
that one space we might be able to ensure that girls and young women
are mentioned is within the Ad-hoc working group on long term
cooperative action (AWG LCA) text, and specifically the section on
'shared visions'. I am attaching the draft of the text here.
3. We should try and link up with the gender constituency and do a
little bit of 'research' into what they're planning and where their
lobbying efforts will be concentrated. I have emailed a couple of
members but have not yet had a response - if anyone has any contacts/
any knowledge of what they're doing could you pass these onto this
group!
4. we will need to find a suitable time to meet as a group within COP.
I would also suggest that we begin at COY. Jessie and I will be runing
a session on girls and young women and climate change at COY and this
may be a good place to start.
5. we need to invite others to join us! Please invite any relevant
people/organizations to join our policy group.
6. Any other thoughts on what we should be preparing before we get to
Cancun? Let's get this conversation started :)

Look forward to hearing from you all!
Katy

MIRIAM:VERY CORRECT-INCLUSION OF GIRLS ND YOUNG WOMEN IN THE DOCUMENT

3. We should try and link up with the gender constituency and do a

MIRIAM:I AGREE WITH THIS POINT

5. we need to invite others to join us! Please invite any relevant

6. Any other thoughts on what we should be preparing before we get to
Cancun? Let's get this conversation started :)

MIRIAM:I THINK WE NEED TO ACT WITH URGENCY ESPECIALLY IN GETTING MORE YOUTH TO
JOIN US IN DEVELOPING A DOCUMENT SO THAT WE CAN BE ABLE TO COME UP WITH A DRAFT
AND SUBMIT IT TO OUR NATIONAL DELEGATES BY THE SECOND WEEK IF LATEST.
THESE ARE MY THOUGHTS FOR NOW
MIRIAM
