Swamp Circus
PLAYFEST 2013
Organised by Kernow Live Youth Events, Circo Kernow and Truro Council; the 5th year of PLAYFEST saw over 5000 children and families come together in Malpas park (Boscawen) for a glorious 2 days of play in the form of green crafts, circus big top, young bands, dance tent, arts marquee and fairground rides, food and have a go fun.
The event is a colourful, showcase for youth work providers, health advice and guidance, cultural expression and celebration of youth arts from across Cornwall. It was a fantastic opportunity for networking between different youth arts groups and young artists from the TR14ers, Shallal Dance and Cornwall Dance Group were able to join workshops with professionals including Capoiera, Bollywood and street dancers.
Thanks to support from the Big Lottery, Feast, Cornwall Glass and West Cornwall Youth Trust PLAYFEST was totally free including inflatables, face painting and a wide variety of workshops in the big top,marquees and tipis.
KERNOW LIVE will be organising similar events to bring young people and youth-work providers together including the HARVEST FAIR on 5th October at Gwealan Tops Play Centre at Redruth.

CORNWALL CIRCUS CAMP 2013
Took place in the last week of July at the beautiful location of Chyan Cultural Centre.
I7 top professional tutors from the UK, France, Sweden, Poland, Germany and Brazil took 12 sessions each day .
These included, acrobatics, air track tumbling , hand balancing, juggling hats, whip and lassoo, trick-cycle, swinging trapeze, aerial dance, yoga, capoiera, high wire and clown skills.
A whole food café and sauna ensured that trainees were relaxed and well fed.
The project was a first for Cornwall and brought together Cornwall’s Youth Circuses and linked to youth circus groups from across the UK and Europe.
After great feedback the event is set to grow in 2014 and already acrobatic dance, body popping , trampoline and Chinese pole have been added to the list of visiting tutors.

Europe Youth Action Program
In July 5 young people from Circo Kernow joined youth groups from 9 other European countries on a
An anti-discrimination project in the South of Greece a country that is very obviously suffering from financial crisis.
The young people do not have social security and as in many European Countries at present are often left on the street to fend for themselves….
The project objectives were:
- to learn about circus and HipHop dance through the activities supported by that type of art;
- to gain new ideas and skills together;
- to promote active citizenship;
- to exchange ideas about European Culture through circus art activities;
- to keep the idea of tolerance between cultures;
- to support youngsters to take initiatives and form groups;
- to develop the sense of European Citizenship and fight against racial discrimination;
- to include youth with fewer opportunities;
- to fight against unemployment;
- support for actions connected with art and cult-sense of initiative and entrepreneurship.
The project was a lasting success and longterm partnerships and future projects are being planned.
CIRCO KERNOW TRAINING
Continues every week and is available to all abilities, 14+ , out of education and work.
Learn acrobatics, dance, mime, aerial dance, coordination and balance skills…..
It is a FREE training program with level 2 accreditation with top tutors and lots of exciting work experience and progression activities.
