Hi All,
Time for an update on whats been happening on the UKYCN front!
We
were overwhelmed by the response to last year's festival in Edinburgh,
it was
such a big success all round. The response we had from you all was
fantastic, and we'd love a regular festival to be a part of the UK youth
circus calendar.
The event was made possible by the voluntary support of a number of youth circus
organisations
around the UK,
and a lot of hard work by many individuals. Lots of you told us that it
was one of the best events you had ever attended and we are very proud
to have been a part of such a landmark event for UK youth circus.
After the festival, we all went back to our respective organisations
rejuvenated and inspired by what we had experienced. As organisers, we
recognise the value of events like this as a way of bringing together,
building bridges and inspiring not just young
people but also their trainers. We want to do so much more! We do,
however recognise our limitations; we are all busy people and need to be
realistic about what we are able to do as individual organisations. We
have a great opportunity to build on strong foundations,
and in January the UKYCN committee came together to discuss future
plans. We all recognise the need for a stand alone body with dedicated
staff that can truly represent, promote and work on behalf of youth
circus in the UK. With this in mind we are now forging
ahead with plans for the network. Our members come from all four
corners of the UK, and we have the support of over 100 youth circus
organisations that have joined our mailing list. We now have a 3 year
business plan and are in the process of setting up as
a charity. We are very happy to announce that on April 19th, World
Circus Day we will be relaunching as CircusWorks- The network for UK
Youth Circus.
We are committed to delivering another major festival for young people
in 2015, and will be partnering with a number of other events to ensure a
strong youth circus presence this year. From the feedback we have
received from many young people and trainers,
there is a great desire to up-skill and support youth circus trainers
and this year we have decided that this will be our focus.
Therefore from 3rd-5th October 2014 we will be hosting a national
networking event at NoFit State's base in Cardiff. We already have the
commitment from leading circus organisations to attend, both UK and
international. We hope this will be an inspiring and
educational event for youth circus teachers, managers, fundraisers, and
administrators which will educate, build bridges, enrich, inspire and
strengthen our blossoming sector.
Put the date in your diaries now! We'll be in touch very soon with more news.
