No pressure to have joy.
Just because it's December and lights are everywhere and you are SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPY, you don't have to be. Give yourself permission to actually see and feel what you are actually feeling.
How can you be present for your kids when you are not full of joy "like everyone else?"
Maybe it's not easy, but it's also real. Being real is more important than FAKE JOY.

Insight: Don't be fake, your kids can tell. If you can tell your child what is really going on, and let them know it has NOTHING to do with them, (emotionally leveling to them) you are inviting them into a communication of truth. Communicating with truth and transparency, builds relationships on trust.

I was inspired by a Mom who began to recently "own" her child's behavior issues to extended family members. If your child is acting up in ways that draw negative attention, it's ok and actually a powerful move to let extended family members know, that you are aware of the challenges and are working on it. You owe them no explanation other than that....

Holiday times can bring out:
  • Expectations
  • Fear
  • Worry
  • Shame
  • Guilt
  • Sadness
Creating and then integrating your own NEW holiday rituals can lighten the stress load that you feel and that your children feel. So many parents work so hard to duplicate their own childhood experience, which triggers many old stories and emotions.

I invite you all to invent something new to share with your family, come up with this new idea with your children.... Invite them in to the process...
  1. A game
  2. A song
  3. An art activity
  4. A day trip
  5. a stay-cation day
  6. Theme days
  7. Giving non-material gifts
  8. Family talent show
  9. Add your own
  • It will feel awkward to begin something new.
  • Who cares?
  • Do it anyway (bonus points for telling your family you feel awkward)
Have an easy holiday season,
Love,
Shane

Yoga and Tutus is a meeting place for mothers and kids to come together for a morning of joyous movement, experiential learning, and activities that will leave you deeply rejuvenated!

Spend the first part of the day connecting with your child through yoga and various methods of motion. The second half will be specially tailored to the audience. Mothers and children break off and half their own developmental experience.

Each Yoga & Tutu event is customized to refill your tanks as a caregiver and fill your child with fun and inspiration.  When you take the necessary time for yourself and give your child outlets to grow through creativity you come back to build a healthier and loving bond!
