Hello Capacity team,

I have been thinking that we should run a series of workshops during COP. Maybe it is one every day, maybe it is less frequently...but I think it would be very good to run a regular session that any youth can attend. I also think it doesn't need to be just done by young people - it could be possible to bring in others to run sessions. Here are a few ideas:
  • ACE - association for climate education has a terrific communications person coming interested in providing support. Run an 'effective communications campaigns' workshop
  • Bring in several negotiators from global south and/or several global south campaigners and prepare youth on how to support strong country positions inside the negotiations
  • 'How to lobby' - a training on what you do to push your point one-on-one
Those are just three examples of what I think could be possible. Planning these could be fairly easy - find people to lead the sessions, schedule them, advertise them and help set them up. The COY WG has already identified some great facilitators but I imagine we could expand our options considerably, especially if we think outside of the youth movement as well.

That is just a quick thought. Is anyone interested to work on this? lead on this?

Hi all,

I'm fully supportive of Aiden's idea.
It can be very helpful !
Unfortunately I'm unable to work on it by COP. Even less to lead on it.
I can give a hand during first week of COP though...

Pierre.

I just sent this message to one person explaining what it would entail...and realized I should just send it to everyone. I am going to write an email looking for suggestions for workshops to get this rolling.

Here is what I think it involves in terms of people:
  • A central person to tie it all together - keeps the discussion moving forward, schedules any meetings/conversations that need to happen, keeps an overall view of the plan (making sure it all ties together, everything is getting done, etc), and gets things done if someone else can't
  • A group of folks who can assist in making it happen - lead on details like booking rooms, finding facilitators, advertising the trainings, etc. The do'ers
Things that need to get done:
  • Find person to lead, find people to help
  • Brainstorm possible training workshops - also advertise for the opportunity to provide ideas or submit interest in leading on
  • Recruit facilitators
  • Plan the schedule (what days/times, where, etc)
  • Book rooms (through UNFCCC Secretariat via Wilson Ang of Li Lina)
  • Advertise the events
  • Make the events happen - make sure tables, chairs, etc - whatever is needed
Timeline (estimate):
  • Solicit ideas and people - by end of this week
  • Rough schedule Tues next week
  • Confirm schedule by COY - including confirming speakers, dateas, etc
  • Book rooms by COY/first day of COP
That is a uber quick summary but in essence what is involved. It's pretty straightforward...except that it needs to happen far faster tahan is typical for organizing such a thing.

I am going to send out an email about it right now to collect interest + ideas...so one of those pieces is covered because thins needs to get moving. If you want to plug in on this or play that lead role that would be awesome.
