Hi,

Sending this email to get a sense of what everyone in this working group is up to and how things are going. We have tons of people joining the movement every day but everyone's levels of awareness are varying. We need to make sure that everyone is able to participate effectively in the movement and that means taking up responsibility for everything from making sure that they are well-versed on the issue and are also able to use the various tools we rely on such as the google groups and wikis.

Ideally the work of this group should not be limited to Cancun but should start earlier and be an ongoing process. If any of you have ideas and suggestions as to how we can go about this that would be amazing.

Swati,

Hi Swati,

thank you for the wake-up call. Only four months to go to Cancun, time
to start moving! :P

I have replied before, but cyberspace swallowed my message. :(

I am working at the Instituto Nacional de Ecología in Mexico (which is
part of the Ministry of the Environment) on three things related to
COP16:
- REDD+
- youth participation at COP16
- creating good background materials on climate change and the
negotiations for the international journalists that will attend COP16.

I would like to offer my help in creating capacity building tools for
YOUNGO that can function throughout the year. I have facilitated two
international online courses on Sustainable Development before and I
know that learning over the internet is definitely possible. (http://
sustainable.wiki-site.com/, if you'd like to have a look)

I am also happy to help with capacity building at COY or during COP16.

I guess for the moment we need to figure out three things:

1. Who is there who is interested in capacity building for YOUNGO?
(presumably the 100+ people on this list, but very silent so far)
2. What do we have already in terms of tools, materials, etc.?
3. What do we want/what are the needs?

If we can figure out these three, we are ready to go.
And I believe that there are quite a lot of initiatives going on that
can provide synergies (e.g. the Climate Champions programme of the
British Council which I am also involved with).

What do the others on this list think?

best wishes from Mexico,

Kjell

Very true Swati & Kjell,
I would like to be of assistance in the WG but will only do so in the
next one and half months when i am done with some pressing work here.
I also agree that we need to continoully have the Capacity Building
Sessions. Personally, i have experienced an immense growth in the
youth movement in Africa, and now faced with a challenge of capacity
to run all the projects! These should be some of the details that this
WG can address.

Merci,
Grace

Hi all,

I'd just replied Sebastien Duyck in response to his latest email about cooperating with UNITAR.. and in response to Kjell's email, I thought the below would be good reference for others on the list too.  =)

I think PROF LEO did great work in structuring the syllabus, engaging conversation, and leading the way forward with potential research topics, etc.

I think this is a course that should be duplicated (for its content and also its structure!) as it would greatly benefit YOUNGO, and it could also serve as a model for other workshop topics you have in mind =)

Cheers,
LJ
