Dear all,
Sorry for repeated emails tonight, but all are related to different issues and the result of some work in parallel...
This is the first update/contribution from the Capacity Building Group!
We propose to provide to youth delegates each Tuesday until COP a series on online-run powerpoints on different issues. The first series will take place next week, on Tuesday 17th November.
This first session will be a crashcourse in the UNFCCC, during which I will introduced you to:
- the convention and its main articles,
- the Kyoto Protocol and the main obligation therein,
- the key acronyms used in relation to the convention,
- the process of the ongoing negotiations.
I recommend you to follow the presentation if you are not feeling confident on the whole process and names...
In order to accommodate the different timezones, I will run the session three times, starting at 12:00am, 08:00am and 16:00 GMT. The session will last one hour, including questions and answers.
The presentation will be run on
http://freemeeting.dimdim.com (free and easy login, look for room "duycks"), where you will be able to see the powerpoint and to use the chat option. I will indicate you there on the chat a free number that you can call from skype to listen/ask questions/comment. So basically what you need is an internet connection and skype, at least being able to hear. Note the presentation is limited to 20 participants, Make sure to sign in on time if you want to make sure to attend (in case we have an issue with this limitation, please send me an email we will find a solution to have a similar presentation in the near future).
Please note on Tuesday 24th, Aiden will run three sessions at similar times on "being a youth delegate at COP", and the following week, someone will discuss briefly the policy issues/positions of major negotiating blocks. More information to come.
The capacity building WG of the YOUNGOs is here to provide support to youth delegate prior, at and after COP on all kinds of practical or theoretical issues. You are most welcome to join and support its work, or to let us know what you would need as information in order to better participate to COP, at
