Dinner with Lord Best, Chairman of the Communications Committee, 12th October

Dear friends,

We are awfully fortunate to have Lord Best, the new chairman of the Communications Committee, coming to speak to the Young Stationers on 12th October.

Lord Best's
Committee is where parliamentary hearings are now taking place on BBC Charter Renewal. It also recently held hearings into women in UK journalism.

We're tremendously lucky, too, that Lord Best is the second chairman of the Communications Committee to come to speak to the Young Stationers - Lord Inglewood, the previous chairman, was one of our first speakers.

Our speaker entered the House of Lords in 2001, sitting as a crossbencher, after an early career devoted to social housing issues.

We will be at the Landsowne Club, which have given us their Ballroom, and rather a sweetheart deal, for which we're immensely grateful. Dinner should resemble this - and will be a very reasonable £65 (to 30-96-35 and account 02779270 - or do email if you'd rather send a cheque):

Sherry

Whisky Cured Salmon with Horseradish Mayo, Brioche Croutes, and a Lemon and Honey Dressing
Muscadet de Sevre et Maine sur Lie, Domaine Du Manoir, Loire Valley, 2011

Roast Beef, with Chateaux Potatoes and a Panache of Seasonal Vegetables
Cotes de Rhone, Domaine de Seraphin 2010

Champagne and Berry Trifle
Coffee and Lansdowne Chocolates

2007 Ramos Pinto Port

This is our first dinner since our Annual Dinner in July, at which the Young Stationers' Prize was presented to author, playwright, and columnist Angela Clarke, and David Aaronovitch, columnist at The Times and recipient of the Orwell Prize, spoke afterwards.  An update on the work of the Young Stationers is available at tinyurl.com/StateoftheYS2015.

with all very best wishes,
