Let’s not think of health as something you 'do' when you are feeling unhealthy. In other words, symptom management goes a long way but prevention is where we should be focused. For example, we know that toxic chemicals in our environment contribute greatly to the ill-health of our bodies and minds, therefore use Thieves cleaner instead of the extremely toxic commercial household cleaners. And, it's not just about having RC essential oil blend to relieve a cough. Our focus is on boosting the immune system as well. That being said, let's discuss the VERY BASICS of where to start and what I believe every household with young children should have.
1. Kidscents shampoo - Such a simple way to opt out of the toxic junk sold at stores. Commercial soaps and shampoos are known to have both neurotoxins and hormone disrupters that are readily absorbed through your precious children's skin. Why in the world would anyone find that acceptable when there's a safe alternative?
2. Kidscents Slique Toothpaste - The best tasting toothpaste I have ever had, the kids love it, there are no hormone disruptors or potential cancer-causing chemicals like in commercial toothpastes.
3. Mightyvites - Let's admit that most kids do not have optimal nutrition. This is a great multivitamin for the less-than-optimal-eating little creature who won't suck down that green smoothie or is just addicted to carbs.
4. Super C Chewable -This is great when the kids are coming down with something and they need a little immune support. There's also a non-chewable Super C for adults and older children who have no trouble swallowing whole pills.
5. Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil - From infants to adults, this is a must-have. Great for opening the airways and supporting the respiratory system in general. As infants, we would just apply a few drops to the bottoms of their feet if they had any congestion or cough. From about 1 year old- adult, it can be applied to the chest, upper back, and bottoms of the feet. Use a home diffuser to make sure they get a good dose all night long! This is one of my favorite oils that I would never be caught without.
6. Peace & Calming and Roman Chamomile essential oils - Both can be used to help with sleep issues, anxiousness, or calming during teething or illness. It's like an elephant tranquilizer for the kids. Apply several drops to the bottom of their feet and notice within a short time they will be sleeping!! It's wonderful!!
7. Lavender essential oil – I can't say enough about this oil. Calming, uplifting, helps with burns, bug bites, allergies, and on and on. Every single household needs Lavender. It's like the Swiss Army Knife of essential oils. When in doubt, grab some Lavender.
8. Peppermint essential oils - Stomach upset. Rub a drop or two on the belly. Enough said. Take caution: don’t use on children under 3 years old.
9. Thieve lozenges -This is for the older child and adult. They come in soft form or hard. I prefer the solf lozenges. Not only is it soothing to the throat and eases coughing, but it also gives a good dose of Thieves .
10. Ningxia Red - It can't get any easier to get low-glycemic whole-food nutrition into your kid. Chock full of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, it's really hard to pass up something so nutritionally valuable. Most kids LOVE the taste, too!
Use this list as a very basic starting point. From here, it just gets better and better. You are teaching your kids that their wellness is important and you do not have to fall victim to tiny germs. You are giving them a tremendous gift by teaching them how to take care of themselves.
