New Olubadan emerges

THE new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Lana
was yesterday formally appointed as the next successor to Oba Yunusa
Ogundipe Arapasowu I, who died on Friday 6th July, 2007 at the age of
86.
His appointment came after thorough deliberation
among the kingmakers headed by the Otun Balogun of Ibadan land, Chief
Sulaiman Omiyale.
While making the appointment public, High Chief Omiyale said that the
laid down rules and regulations guiding how new Olubadan emerges was
strictly adhered to.
The motion for choosing the new king was moved by
the Asipa Olubadan of Ibadan land, High Chief Omowale Kuye and
seconded by Ekerin Olubadan High Chief Alarape Busari at the meeting
held at the Palace of Olubadan, Oja Oba.
Oba Lana who joined the royal train in 1972 was
the former Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land before his enthronement
yesterday.
The 39th king of the city promised to re-engineer
the traditional institution of the ancient city of Ibadan which,
according to him, had been bastardized since the reign of late Oloyede
Asanke.
High Chief Lana said he would do everything
within his capacity to bring peace and tranquility to the
crisis-ridden city.
The new Olubadan was born at Odegbade Compound,
Aremo, Ibadan on April 14th, 1914. He is from Fadina Village, Igbo
Elerin in Lagelu Local Government Area.
He attended Mapo Central School between 1935 and
1936 and joined the civil service, Education Department in 1945 and
left in 1959 and later elected the councilor of Ibadan District
Council in 1951.
