TF is 2019 Texas Ten
Ten talented University of Texas at Austin professors have been selected by the Alcalde to be a part of the annual Texas Ten awards.
Each year, alumni nominate the professors they felt were the most inspiring to them. From these nominations, Alcalde magazine chooses the top ten professors they believe left the biggest impact with their students and honors them with the title of the Texas Ten.
This year, our own Professor Toyin Falola emerged among the top ten professors celebrated by UT Austin Alumni as having made the biggest impact on their lives and for being so inspirational. The story is here:

Join me in celebrating the latest Texas Ten, a distinguished and unalloyed honour, Professor Toyin Falola.

I have heard Prof. Falola fondly called (hailed) Iwin, for those who know the full meaning of this Yoruba word (I must, and invite all to, research it further), he is truly an Iwin. I just want to add by calling him, alujannu eniyan! Congratulations, Sir!

I can’t help sharing a letter of reference I wrote for Falola for a teaching award in 2003. Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing the news!
Professor Falola has long served as a case study of the level of recognition and adulation that can manifest when those were never the goal. Falola has never sought an award, yet we see an avalanche of them. It is remarkable to see white institutions such as UT, even though it is his own university, periodically acknowledge and create space for the magnitude and majesty of Falola’s contributions and impact. Such institutions cannot begin, in my opinion, to understand the depth, profundity, and still unfolding meaning of his contributions, yet I am happy about the recognition since it signals ripples and waves that neither we nor they can fully predict.
And a fantastic sketch, Professor Afolayan!
