| Ogbe Odi, Omi, and Our Legacies (Odu Ifa Ogbe Odi, Omi, owun Asefil'omo-l' owo (a-se-fi-le- omo-ni-owo) By Chief FAMA As it was in ancient time, so it is in modern time. The desire to linger on earth for as long as possible was the same in ancient time as it is in modern time. The idea of "toiling" and "reaping" was as fervent then in ancient time as it is in modern time; although the modern approach to the concept is different from its ancient counterpart. In ancient time, labor was collective and so was harvest. Explorations and discoveries were community affairs. At that time in history, science was at its rudimentary stage; in modern time, science is at its peak. As it was then, so it is now; but the old concept and the new concept seem to be colliding. In modern time, the opportunity for exploration is narrower, capital intensive, and conglomerated. As such, the benefit of the modern success is thin because the community of recipients is wider. Now, modern lifetime is on the verge of down-sizing and diversifying its conglomerate impulses. So, as pointed out in a verse of Ogbe Odi, once posted to the group by Awo 'Toyin Oladokun, on the points that say: Bi omi ba ba ile, omi a ni ipa When water touches ground, water multiplies [collective drops of water becomes big] Bi omi ba ba ile, omi a la ilu ja (ati bee bee) When water touches ground, water crosses town [such body of water sometimes establishes its own course], etc. In this regard, and in recognition of modern prevailing circumstances, may we always flourish in Orisa Worship, today and everyday of our lives, ase. As passengers on life's terrain, and as discoverers, too, "Yes! we are," may we be positively guided in our individual and collective tasks, and may our positive contributions shine everlasting light of love, peace, and greatness to the lives that will continue after we have gotten off the stage. Ase. As always, awa ji ire ni oni o (we wake up with ire today—"Good Morning.") Ase.
