Dear Colleagues,
I want to let you know of my new book coming!
Africa World Press, who published my first book
Reciting Ifá, is going to publish this new one titled
Wings of Àsùwà. It's what I call a "graphic recitation" and is a magical story about a child who gets to become a bird for day.
As you likely know, AWP is a well-respected publisher but without the
deep pockets of the big publishers. This is a visually driven book in full color and large format (approx 11"x14") which raises printing costs. So we've had to start a GoFundMe to raise
the money necessary to print this book in large format with full color.

If I may, Wings of Àsùwà sits amongst the context of works by Fagunwa, Tutuola, Nnedi Okorofor, Ben Okri. It's addressed to our time and our crises.
In depicting this story, I've tried to employ many of the inherent
discursive activities in Ifá recitations that I discussed in my first
book. Though a visually-portrayed book, this story functions as
recitation at many levels, even reaching out beyond itself into the
world of the reader; there's a punch-line of sorts at the end that really
captures the activities of Ifá.
Colorful, textured, rich images drive this story for all ages. All of the art is hand made by me
cutting, laying out, gluing, painting, charcoaling, erasing. No AI. No
digital creation. All in-real-life. And it rests solidly on tradition,
in my case the heritage of Ifá, of stories that reveal and connect us globally
together in and with the world.
Thank you so much for allowing me to share this with you... and humbly, if others come to mind, please share the link.
In Community and Creativity,
Noël
