Book Description

Ibadan in History: Issues in Tradition and Modernity is a critical examination of the history of Ibadan and its transformative identity in Africa and Nigeria. It explains how Ibadan's tradition and memory continue to shape its current realities. It highlights the contributions of tertiary institutions and the prominent Ibadan scholars who have nurtured knowledge and leadership. It also attends to cultural expressions, like the art of fabu and the representations of Ibadan in fiction, the misrepresentation of Ibadan and its people in contemporary media, the art of music with detailed reflections on the legacies of two Ibadan-born music legends, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and Dauda Epo Akara. The book concludes with an analysis of Ibadan under the reign of Oba Rashidi Ladoja, offering a multifaceted portrayal of Ibadan as a city where history evolves dynamically.
