The team from Yoper Linux ( yoper-linux.org ) is looking for ways to
improve its online presence. We have a dedicated server at Hetzner in
Germany that I fully fund. It is our main work horse doing everything
from websites , main mirror and build server for software packages.
However we can not afford to take the rather expensive options for a
reliable backup of databases etc. This has cost us dearly 2 months
back in loosing all our websites due to a faulty hard drive which
slowly corrupted our database backups. To prevent that from happening
again we're looking for a small VM to host the websites
www.yoper-linux.org, wiki.yoper-linux.org and forums.yoper-linux.org
with currently about 50GB of storage space to also have nightly
backups of the most important scripts / configuration that are part of
the online framework of Yoper Linux.
Just to clarify the nature of the Yoper Linux project. It's a 100 %
open source project and there are no commercial entities involved. The
founder of Yoper Linux attempted to setup a business a couple of years
back, but it never did any commercial trading. Yoper Linux as it
exists now and for the last couple of years is a true community
project.
Personally I am covering any current operational expenses of Yoper
Linux ( ~ 100 USD per month ) due to the lack of a transparent fund
management process. I actually had to turn down donation offers
because of the high transaction cost involved. If we were to get
hosting space at osuosl.org we'd be looking at setting up a
transparent donation / fund management process and primarily pass on
donations to osuosl.org . An educated guess judging from the past I'd
estimate the annual donations to be ~ 500 USD.
We'd like to keep this discussion as open as possible so please
include our dev-list in your response.
Kind Regards
On behalf of the Yoper Team

We should be able to provide you a VM however 50GB is a bit too large
for our cluster. Is the space for the mirrors to sync from? If so, we
could have that part on our ftp cluster and save you a lot of space.
In general, we setup VMs starting at 512M RAM / 10G disk and go up to 2G
RAM / 30G. We have shared database servers for mysql and postgresql and
do not allow you to run those services locally on the VMs for that
reason.
