The following is information about our September meeting. Help get yourself back into the swing of things for second semester by attending our event:


Technology in Language Teaching Event

Saturday, September 20th

Time: 1pm~

Location: Tamagawa University, Building 5 Room 424 (level four room #424).
Near Tamagawagakuen-Mae station (exit 1), one stop from Machida on Odakyu line.

Details:
Close to 100% of tertiary students in Japan now have a mobile device and most schools have wireless Internet capabilities, so how can language teachers capitalise on these conditions? This workshop style event will feature presentations from members of JALT CALL SIG and contributors to Digital Mobile Language Learning (http://dmll.jaltcall.org), a collection of online publications for teaching and learning languages using technology.
Presenters and presentations include:

-Simeon Flowers- LINE BAND

-Travis Cote- Use of smart-phone video

-Brett Milliner & Paul Raine- SurveyMonkey versus Google Forms

Learner Development SIG conference:

The Learner Development SIG is holding a  small-scale, informal conference on Sunday December 14, Building Community: Learning Together. The main presentation format for the afternoon will be poster presentations and/or digital displays, within the very broad theme of Building Community: Learning Together. There will be spaces for extended discussions too. You can find further details about this special event here. We very much hope you'll be interested in taking part and can also encourage your students to participate. 

To that end, we warmly invite proposals from students and teachers interested in sharing their collaborative work on the theme of “Creating Community: Learning Together”. 
To register as a presenter and to submit a proposal, please complete the Call for Proposals form here. The online registration and the Call for Proposals deadline period runs from October 12 to October 19 2014. 


「コミュニティの創造:共に学ぶ」: 一日間のインフォーマルな学習者ディベロプメントSIGの 学会, 12月14日(日), 大妻女子大学, 東京,市ヶ谷) 「コミュニティの創造:共に学ぶ」は12月14日(日)に大妻女子大学(東京,市ヶ谷)で開催され ます、一日間のインフォーマルな学習者ディベロプメントSIGの 学会です。私たちは「コミュニティの創造:共に学ぶ」というこのテーマで、ご自身の研究を共有することに関心のある学生や教員の方々からの申し込みを募集 しております。申し込みの受付は2014年10月19日までになります。参加者間での双方向の活動や議論を促進するため、当学会における多くのプレゼン テーションはデジタル・ディスプレイ、もしくはポスター・プレゼンテーションで行う予定です。数に限りはありますが、フォーマルな形でのプレゼンテーショ ンを行う場所もございます。申し込みを行うには以下のURLをクリックし、フォームへの記入を行ってください。参加者の皆様にお会いできるのを楽しみにしております。

Call for Papers


Call for Papers for Mask & Gavel, the publication of the Speech, Drama, and Debate SIG

    
We are now open for submissions for the second edition of the third volume of Mask and Gavel, a peer-reviewed publication of the Speech, Drama, and Debate SIG. We welcome the following kinds of submissions:

1.  Research articles on topics connected to the themes of our SIG, speech, drama and debate. (For submission guidelines please refer to the guidelines for the Feature Articles section of The Language Teacher.) Submissions for research articles will be read by two referees who will make a decision on whether the article can be accepted for publication, as is or with rewriting.

2.  Practical or opinion articles on topics connected to the themes of our SIG. (For submission guidelines please refer to the guidelines for the Reader’s Forum section of The Language Teacher.)

3.  Conference, workshop, and book reviews. (For submission guidelines please refer to the guidelines for the Conference Reports section of The Language Teacher.)
