Hello Yojimbo team,

are there any plans to implement Markdown support? It would be great
to have a live preview for Markdown syntax within Yojimbo. Like an
option for text notes you could toggle, so it wouldn’t interfere with
existing workflows of people who aren’t interested in Markdown.

What do you guys think?

It's not really a web publishing tool. It supports rich text
already. Not the kind of feature I'm looking for, personally, I would
WAY RATHER get sync back, and a read/write iPad client before Markdown
support. I think if you want Markdown, there are good tools like
Byline, NVAlt, etc., for stuff you're actually intending to publish
somewhere. Yojimbo is more for collection and as a personal database,
or at least that's how it's targeted/focused right now.

Hi,

I would agree to Pavel. I use Yojimbo as my personal knowledge base and write lots of "snippets". The markdown syntax allows focusing on the content and forget about the layout. Even using the "copy style" options to render at least headlines takes too much effort currently leading in plain text pages, so toggling between text and markdown view would be a big improvement for me either

Best regards

Hi,

I want to bring this topic back up. I love Yojimbo. I have tried everything else and always come back to yojimbo.

I use Yojimbo not only as a "everything bucket", collection tool, I also create content in it. For example I use it to collect ideas for blog posts, and eventually draft my blog post right inside Yojimbo. However, compare to other markdown editors (ByWord, iaWriter, etc), the text editor (RTF control?) is really not as nice to work in. I really like to see optional MarkDown support in Yojimbo !

I don't do heaps with Markdown, and when I my editor is BBEdit,
so I haven't tried the others you mention.

But since Markdown is just text; how about setting the font
format to a monospaced font (I've got a 'style' setup, so I can
choose it from the Ruler) and working with that?

Otherwise, I'm sure an AppleScript or two will allow you to have
an "external markdown editor". Run script to copy text from
Yojimbo to preferred editor, and when done, run script to copy
text back to Yojimbo.

Having said that; I'd certainly be interested in an "Edit with"
command in Yojimbo. The current "View with" heads in the right
direction. (I couldn't find a way to change which editor is used
for 'view with', it uses TextEdit.)

The high level requirement actually is that I like to have semantic markup, i.e. headers, and code blocks.
I can create my own styles, but those styles are only visual. If I cut and paste things in and out of yojimbo, the semantics are lost.
