The Mindful Body
June 21-27, 2010

This pre and postnatal yoga teacher training offers holistic, practical information for supporting women during conception, childbearing, and beyond.  We will explore a breadth of traditional and conventional wisdom, as we learn to teach pre and postnatal yoga asana, meditation, philosophy, and breathwork.  This comprehensive course also includes the study of nutrition, common medical and midwifery practices, complementary healing modalities, as well as birthing relaxation techniques.  Additionally, we will cultivate tools for supporting women through fertility treatments, accepting infertility, and healing from miscarriage and other loss.  Students will complete this training possessing a wide breadth of practical knowledge, hands-on experience, numerous resources, as well as feeling prepared to work with and inspire women in all stages of life.

Cost: $950

50 classroom hours
50 hours independent study

-Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum
-Structuring and sequencing a prenatal class
-Modifications for pregnant women in general yoga classes (Vinyasa, Iyengar, Hatha)
-Postpartum/Mom and Baby asana
-Therapeutic modifications for various health conditions and complications
-Diet to optimize health during conception, pregnancy, and postpartum
-Relaxation, hypnosis, and visualization techniques
-Yoga practices for the menstrual cycle
-Yoga for enhancing fertility
-Cultural attitudes, myths, and history surrounding childbearing
-Examining personal biases and attitudes
-Preparing for birth by releasing fears and expectations
-Understanding medical and holistic modes of maternity care
-How to create conditions for a healthy, peaceful, empowered birth
-Complimentary techniques and resources
-Preventing postpartum depression
-Understanding the subtle influences of language and sound
-Creating and holding space for women experiencing loss
