नमोनमः सर्वेभ्यः

The term त्रिजगत्/त्रिलोक is used very widely in Puranas, Ramayan and also sometimes in Yoga Vasistha. Does anyone knows what are the three worlds? Some say the three worlds are स्वर्गः, पृथ्वी and पाताल while some say it is gross, subtle and causal existence, some say it is भूः, भुवः and स्वः from the famous गायत्री मन्त्र which is a mystery in itself.

What do you think it is? YV mentions it in 3.97.26 https://yv-reader.netlify.app/3/97/26 for instance.

It frequently mentions another term इन्द्रजाल. You can find it in 3.97.26 too. It is translated as illusion but what has the Indra got to do with this? If it were ब्रह्मजाल it would have made sense. What do you think?

L.I: The term trijagat/trilokai …

jd: <tri.jagat> I read as tri-world.going.on (jagat is a participle of ##gam.to.go);

it is the world in Time, the Now.

<tri.loka>  is the tri-world in Place, the Here.

as  Lokeza you must have thought of this.

Etymoogically we get in English "locus, location".

L.I … used very widely in Puranas, Ramayan and also sometimes in Yoga Vasistha.

jd: in YV much.more.than "sometimes" as trijagat.

L.I: Does anyone knows what are the three worlds?

Some say the three worlds are svarga:, pRthvI and pAtala.

jd. I call these *svarga.heaven, pRthvi.earth & pAtala.Netherworld (not a "Hell")

L.I: while some say it is gross, subtle and causal existence…

jd. yeah. me.too. I agree with both these views,

the mythical and the philosophical

fand I would add of.course

Waking, Dream, and Sleep

What <tri.jagat> means

depends

:

what you read as "what he is saying"

depends.on who is doing the talking

someone in a Vaasishthan Tale

Religious o&r Philosophical

Affective o&r Effective

The Braahmanas in the YV Tales would mean the Heaven, triad.

In the philosophical sargas there are strongly Vedic parts

but mostly in the 6th double.book …

L.I: some say it is *bhU: *bhuva: and *sva: from the famous *gAyatrI.mantra

(which is a mystery in itself.)

What do you think it is?

jd. Ive changed my view often over the years

L.I: YV mentions it in 3.97.26 https://yv-reader.netlify.app/3/97/26 for instance.

The pure intellect being changed to the state of the changeful mind, takes a debased figure; and then being confounded in itself, weaves the magic web of the world to entangle itself in the same

jd:

चिनोति मलिनम् रूपम् चित्तताम् सम्.उपागतम्

cinoti malinam rUpam cittatAm sam.upAgatam |

त्रि.जगन्ति_इन्द्र.जालानि रचयति_आकुल.आत्मकम् ॥३।९७।२६॥

tri.jaganti_indra.jAlAni racayati_Akula.Atmakam ||3|97|26||

.

an impure citta.Affection being conceived

has come.to.be a magic trap

:

these three worlds with their crowding identitIes

.

*jd.26 -चिनोति मलिनम् रूपम् चित्तताम् the citta conceives an impure form = समुपागतम् having attained = त्रि-जगन्ति इन्द्र-जालानि the three-world magic-snare/delusion = रचयति arranges/constructs = आकुल-आत्मकम् multitude of identities.

*vlm.26. The pure intellect being changed to the state of the changeful mind, takes a debased figure; and then being confounded in itself, weaves the magic web of the world to entangle itself in the same.

*AS.VA: -by perception of unclean form (of cit), arises mind and makes of the agitated self illusions of three worlds *AS: It chooses the mixed up form, having taken the form of a mind and in such an affected state (AkulAtmakam) creates the illusions of the three worlds.

*sv.24-25-26 In fact, the others do not exist, and this division of consciousness into three is arbitrarily suggested only while instructing the ignorant. The enlightened one knows that there is only one reality - the infinite consciousness.

*AB. kAryeSu mAlinya-darzanAt_api cittasya na zuddha-cit-kAryatêty Azayena …

L.I:

It frequently mentions another term indrajAla.

jd: <jAla> is a favorite term in YV:

it derives from jala.water as the term for a fisherman's net

but in the literature it came almost to the present (CE2020) sense of Network.

Often in YV <indrajAla> is accompanied by <jhaTiti!>

which is a magician's magic word.

But on a couple of occasions I have had to read indrajAla.rainbow

(a network of color)

As for <indra>

the quasi-pauraanic tales often suggest a cult of Indra,

including a couple of shlokas that join Brahmaa, Vishnu, Indra, and Shiva

In philosophical passages <indra> often implies <indriya>, the various sensory organs>

L.I: but what has the Indra got to do with this? If it were <brahmajAla> it would have made sense. What do you think?

jd:  <brahma.jAla> would be the Net of Immensity

<indrajAla> however you see it, is a net of manifestation.
