*vwv.2413/6.106.6. What fault (or sin) possibly occurs to those performing
the action on hand (or the natural activity), which is easy, attainable and
pleasing to the mind, commenced (or settled) in regular course ever since
creation?

*sv.6 This is natural, pleasant and possible. What fault is there in it? We
have given up both desire and rejection and we have total equal vision.

*vlm.6. [It] has come down to us; and therefore our obedience to the
ordinance of nature, can entail no guilt on our part.



इच्चऽअनिच्चे फले त्यक्त्वा समन्तात् सर्व.वस्तुषु ।

the world; I see everything in the same and in an equal light: so I let you
have your option as you may like.

for celebrating the marriage ceremony; it is the full moon of Srávana, and
all lueky asterism according to my best calculation.

पुष्प.भारानता.उत्तुङ्ग.व्ऱ्क्ष.राजि.विराजिते ।

वन.पुष्प.लता.लास्य.नारी.न्ऱ्त्य.मनोहरे ॥६।१०६।१३॥

dance of nauck girls by their tremulous shaking. (Dance and music being
necessary accompaniments of marriage festivities).

the most auspicious day. The celestial bodies shall witness our wedding. "

gems, in order to deck our nuptial seats therewith.

*sv.16 Both of them then gathered all the articles necessary for the
wedding rite. They bathed each other with holy water in preparation for the
sacred rite. They offered worship to the ancestors and gods.

collected the gems.

*vlm.18. They had their marriage vests and necklaces ready on the spot, and
the god of love helped with the supply of every thing requisite on the
occasion.

and with time all objects were collected as if by god of love (?)

They were like collections for good fortune by kama stored for a long time (

*vlm.19. Having thus prepared the paraphernalia of their nuptials, and
stored them in a golden grotto of the mountain, they both repaired to
sacred stream of the heavenly Ganges Mandákini, for making their holy
ablutions therein.

*vlm.20. Here Kumbha served as the priest, to lave the holy water profusely
on the lofty head and elevated shoulders of the prince; as the elephantine
clouds of Indra, pour the rain water in plenteous showers, on the towering
tops and height of hills.

*VA there kumbra with great respect bathed the king,

purifying him first (with dadhi and rice?) upon elephant.like

*AS: There is no mention of dadhi/rice! It is just the water. AB reads it
into the word "मंगलपूर्वकम्".

Also, गजकुम्भ means the top of the head of an elephant. Thus he is

*vlm.56. After sitting on the altar, the matrimonial couple kindled the
nuptial fire, and made offerings of sesame seeds, and fried rice upon its

nuptial rite, in strict accord with the injunctions of the scriptures. The
altar had been decorated with flowery creepers and with precious and
semiprecious stones. Its four corners were decorated with cocoanuts and
there were also pots full of holy water of the Ganga. In the centre was the
sacred fire. They went round this fire and offered the prescribed oblations
into it with the appropriate sacred hymns. Even while doing so the king
frequently held Madanika's hand thus revealing his fondness for her and his
joy on that occasion.

clouds of Indra, pour the rain water in plenteous showers, on the towering

*AS: There is no mention of dadhi/rice! It is just the water. AB reads it
into the word "मंगलपूर्वकम्".
I would interpret it as "following proper ritual", or better yet
"auspiciously".
Also, गजकुम्भ means the top of the head of an elephant. Thus he is
described as having massive shoulders comparable to the head of an elephant

nuptial fire, and made offerings of sesame seeds, and fried rice upon its

nuptial rite, in strict accord with the injunctions of the scriptures. The
altar had been decorated with flowery creepers and with precious and
semiprecious stones. Its four corners were decorated with cocoanuts and
there were also pots full of holy water of the Ganga. In the centre was the
sacred fire. They went round this fire and offered the prescribed oblations
into it with the appropriate sacred hymns. Even while doing so the king
frequently held Madanika's hand thus revealing his fondness for her and his
joy on that occasion.

मुक्ता.कुसुम.जालानाम् प्रकरै: स्तबक.उपमै: ।

muktA.kusuma.jAlAna.m prakara.i: stabaka*upama.i: |

चतुर्।दिक्कम् चतुर्भि: च नालिकेर.महाफलै: ॥६।१०६।५३॥

catur.dikkam caturbhi: ca nAlikera.mahAphala.i: ||6|106|53||

पूर्ण.कुम्भै: तथा गग्ग़ा.वारि=पूर्णै: प्रकल्पितै: ।

pUrNa.kumbha.i: tathA gagGA.vAri=pUrNa.i: prakalpita.i: |

जालयाम् आसतु: तस्या* मध्ये चन्दन.दारुभि: ॥६।१०६।५४॥

jAlayAm.Asatu: tasyA* madhye candana.dArubhi: ||6|106|54||

ज्वलनम् ज्वलित.ज्वालम् दक्षिण।स्थम् प्रदक्षिणम् ।

jvalana.m jvalita.jvAlam dakSiNa.stham pradakSiNa.m |

पूर्वऽअभिमुखम् एवअग्ने:अग्रे पल्लव.विष्टरे ॥६।१०६।५५॥

pUrva*abhimukha.m eva agne: agre pallava.viSTare ||6|106|55||

नियोज्य दंपती कान्तौ तयो: विविज़तु: स्वयम् ।

स* हुत्वा तिल.लाजानि पावकाय ज़िखिध्वज: ॥६।१०६।५६॥

niyojya daMpatI kAntau tayo: vivizatu: svaya.m |

sa* hutvA tila.lAjAni pAvakAya zikhidhvaja: ||6|106|56||

उत्थायउत्थाय कान्ताम् स* पाणिभ्याम् स्वयम् आददे ।

utthAya utthAya kAntAm sa* pANibhyAm svaya.m Adade |

अन्योन्यम् ज़ोभमानौ तौ भवौइव वने ज़िवौ ॥६।१०६।५७॥

anyonya.m zobhamAnau tau bhavau iva vane zivau ||6|106|57||

चक्रतु: दंपती तस्य पावकस्य प्रदक्षिणम् ।

cakratu: daMpatI ta.sya pAvaka.sya pradakSiNa.m |

स्वदायम् ज्ज़ान.सर्वस्वम् ह्ऱ्दयम् प्रेम चापलम् ॥६।१०६।५८॥

svadAya.m jJAna.sarvasvam hRdaya.m prema cApalam ||6|106|58||

ददतु: तौ मिथ:अन्योन्य.स्मित.कान्त.मुख.ज़्रियौ ।

dadatu: tau mitha: anyonya.smita.kAnta.mukha.zriyau |

प्रदक्षिण.त्रयम् क्ऱ्त्वा लाजान् त्यक्त्वाअथ वह्नये ॥६।१०६।५९॥

pradakSiNa.traya.m kRtvA lAjAn tyaktvA atha vahnaye ||6|106|59||

भार्यावरौ समम् तुष्टौ करौ तत्यजतु: क्रमात् ।

bhAryAvarau sama.m tuSTau karau tatyajatu: kramAt |

स्मयमान.मुखौ कान्तौ चन्द्रौइव नव.उदितौ ॥६।१०६।६०॥

smayamAna.mukhau kAntau candrau iva nava*uditau ||6|106|60||

पूर्व.उपरचिते पुष्प.तल्पे विविज़तु: नवे ।

pUrva*uparacite puSpa.talpe vivizatu: nave |

एतस्मिन्अन्तरे चन्द्र: चतुर्।भागम् नभस्तलात् ॥६।१०६।६१॥

etasmin antare candra: catur.bhAgam nabhastalAt ||6|106|61||

ज़नै: आक्रमयाम् आस* ज़ोभाम् द्रष्टुम् इवअनयो: ।

zana.i: AkramayAm.Asa* zobhAm draSTum iva anayo: |

तस्मिन् च ललनाचिद्रम् द्रष्टुम् द्ऱ्ष्टि: इवाभत: ॥६।१०६।६२॥

tasmin ca lalanAchidra.m draSTum dRSTi: ivAbhata: ||6|106|62||

लोल: संचरयाम् आस* करान् इन्दु:लाता.ग्ऱ्हे ।

lola: saMcarayAm.Asa* karAn indu:lAtA.gRhe |

तै:तै: नव.कथऽआलापै: इन्दौअभ्युदिते तुअथ ॥६।१०६।६३॥

tai:ta.i: nava.katha*AlApa.i: indau abhyudite tu atha ||6|106|63||

तौआसांचक्रतु: कान्तौ दंपती सुंउहूर्तकम् ।

tau AsAMcakratu: kAntau daMpatI su.muhUrtakam |

अथउत्थाय ज्वलत्.रत्न.दीपाम् का:चन.कन्दराम् ॥६।१०६।६४॥

atha utthAya jvalat.ratna.dIpAm kA:cana.kandarAm ||6|106|64||

स्वयम् पूर्व.उपरिचताम् गुप्ताम् विविज़तु: प्रियौ ।

svaya.m pUrva*uparicatAm guptAm vivizatu: priyau |

ददर्ज़तु: नवम् तत्र तल्पम् कुसुम.कल्पितम् ॥६।१०६।६५॥

dadarzatu: navam tatra talpam kusuma.kalpita.m ||6|106|65||

परित: व्याप्तम् उत्कीर्णै: हेम.पग़्कज.राज़िभि: ।

parita: vyAptam utkIrNa.i: hema.paGkaja.rAzibhi: |

मन्दर+आदिभि: अन्यै: च पुष्पै: ग्लानि.विवर्जितै: ॥६।१०६।६६॥

mandara+Adibhi: anya.i: ca puSpa.i: glAni.vivarjita.i: ||6|106|66||

उच्चकै: सम्प्रमाणेन निर्मितै: कुसुमे समै: ।

uccaka.i: sampramANa.ina nirmita.i: kusuma.i sama.i: |

दीर्घऽइन्दु.बिम्ब.प्रतिमै: तुषार.स्थल.ज़ीतलै: ॥६।१०६।६७॥

dIrgha*indu.bimba.pratima.i: tuSAra.sthala.zItala.i: ||6|106|67||

क्षीरोद.जल.धाराभम् ज्योत्स्ना.सम्पिण्ड.सुन्दरम् ।

kSIroda.jala.dhArAbha.m jyotsnA.sampiNDa.sundara.m |

प्रतिबिम्बम् अनङ्गस्य नतम् भिttAv इव स्थितम् ॥६।१०६।६८॥

pratibimba.m anaGga.sya nata.m bhittau iva sthita.m ||6|106|68||

सु.गन्धम् उन्नतम् कान्तम् चिरात् अन्यतयाउत्थितम् ।

su.gandha.m unnata.m kAnta.m cirAt anyatayA utthita.m |

मिथुनम् पुष्प.राज़ौ तत् न्यषीदत् परित:अमले ।

mithuna.m puSpa.rAzau tat nyaSIdat parita: amale |

तस्मिन् सम।समाभोगे क्षीरोदे मन्दर:यथा ॥६।१०६।६९॥

tasmin sama.samAbhoge kSIrode mandara: yathA ||6|106|69||

तै: तै: मिथ: प्रणय.पेज़ल.वाक्ऽविलासै:

ta.i: ta.i: mitha: praNaya.pezala.vAk*vilAsa.i:

तत्.काल.कार्य.सुभगै: प्रणय.उपचारै: ।

tat.kAla.kArya.subhaga.i: praNaya*upacAra.i: |

सत्.कान्तयो: नव.नवेन तयो: सुखेन

sat.kAntayo: nava.nava.ina tayo: sukha.ina

दीर्घा मुहूर्त* इव सा रजनी जगाम ॥६।१०६।७०॥
