गिरौ शरदि निर्वात* इव भ्रष्ट.अभ्र-मालिके ॥६॥

they became intensely quiet, clear, without vibrant energy  

on a mountain in autumn

यदा ताभ्याम् अवगतस् त्व्_अत्यन्त.अभावन.आत्मकः ॥८॥

असत्त्वाद् एव _अस्माकम् शश-शृङ्गम् इव_अनघ ॥९॥

this pishAcha.Cannibal the world

came to settle.down for those two

just as it is does for us, dear boy, when something is a thing not.So

like the horns of a jack.rabbit

~vlm. They lost the remembrance of the phantom of the phenomenal world, which is as unreal as the horn of a hare.

~sv. Because they had given up all notions of the world, it had completely vanished in their consciousness.

since what is not in the very beginning -  

even in the present that thus   

whether appearing or not appearing

is hence a mirage.water-world

~AS. Whatever (yat) does not exist (na_asti) in the beginning (Adau eva) , it (tat) is likewise (tathA) non existent in the present also(vartamAne api); therefore (ata: evam ) , whether experienced or unexperienced (bhAtam vA, abhAtam vA) the world (jagat) is indeed like water in a mirage (mRgatRSNAmbuvat) 

~vlm.p.10 What had no existence in the beginning is still non-existent at present, and what appears existent is as non-existent as water in a mirage.

* Adau_eva hi  - for in the very beginning -  yat_na_asti  - what is not - vartamAne_api  - even in the present -  tat tathA  - that thus -  bhAtam vA_abhAtam eva  - whether appearing or disappearing -  ata:_mRgatRSNa.ambuvat_jagat  - is hence a mirage.water-world

~vlm.p.11 The two ladies became as quiet as inert nature herself, and as still as the sky before the stars rolled about in its ample sphere.

~vlm.p.12.Then they began to move with their own bodies, the goddess of wisdom in her form of intelligence and the queen in her intellectual and meditative mood.

~AS.... like the sky (ambaram iva) - completely devoid of (dUramuktam) all streams of objects (padArtha-oghaiH) like sun moon etc (candra.arka.Adi). The etc. probably should mean stars, planets etc. Thus, it was like the space prior to creation! The description "completely calm" also has subtle shades of meaning. It is described as svabhAva-zAnta meaning calm by nature - like pure inert space.

*vlm.p.8 They were fully impressed with the disbelief of their own existence, and that of all other things in the world. They were completely absorbed in the thought of an absolute privation of everything at large.

came to settle.down for those two

just as it is does for us, dear boy, when something is a thing not.So

*vlm. They lost the remembrance of the phantom of the phenomenal world, which is as unreal as the horn of a hare.

~sv. Because they had given up all notions of the world, it had completely vanished in their consciousness.

is hence a mirage.water.world

* Adau_eva hi  . for in the very beginning .  yat_na_asti  . what is not . vartamAne_api  . even in the present .  tat tathA  . that thus .  bhAtam vA_abhAtam eva  . whether appearing or disappearing .  ata:_mRgatRSNa.ambuvat_jagat  . is hence a mirage.water.world

*AS. Whatever (yat) does not exist (na_asti) in the beginning (Adau eva), it (tat) is likewise (tathA) non existent in the present also(vartamAne api); therefore (ata: evam), whether experienced or unexperienced (bhAtam vA, abhAtam vA) the world (jagat) is indeed like water in a mirage (mRgatRSNAmbuvat) 

*vlm.p.10 What had no existence in the beginning is still non.existent at present, and what appears existent is as non.existent as water in a mirage.

*vlm.p.11 The two ladies became as quiet as inert nature herself, and as still as the sky before the stars rolled about in its ample sphere.

*vlm.p.12.Then they began to move with their own bodies, the goddess of wisdom in her form of intelligence and the queen in her intellectual and meditative mood.

*AS.... like the sky (ambaram iva) . completely devoid of (dUramuktam) all streams of objects (padArtha.oghaiH) like sun moon etc (candra.arka.Adi). The etc. probably should mean stars, planets etc. Thus, it was like the space prior to creation! The description "completely calm" also has subtle shades of meaning. It is described as svabhAva.zAnta meaning calm by nature . like pure inert space.

Whatever (yat) does not exist (na_asti) in the beginning (Adau eva), it (tat) is likewise (tathA) non existent in the present also(vartamAne api); therefore (ata: evam), whether experienced or unexperienced (bhAtam vA, abhAtam vA) the world (jagat) is indeed like water in a mirage (mRgatRSNAmbuvat) 

*vlm.p.10 What had no existence in the beginning is still non.existent at present, and what appears existent is as non.existent as water in a mirage.

* Adau_eva hi. for in the very beginning. yat_na_asti. what is not. vartamAne_api. even in the present. tat tathA. that thus. bhAtam vA_abhAtam eva. whether appearing or disappearing. ata:_mRgatRSNa.ambuvat_jagat. is hence a mirage.water.world

*vlm.p.11 The two ladies became as quiet as inert nature herself, and as still as the sky before the stars rolled about in its ample sphere.

*vlm.p.12.Then they began to move with their own bodies, the goddess of wisdom in her form of intelligence and the queen in her intellectual and meditative mood.

*AS.... like the sky (ambaram iva). completely devoid of (dUramuktam) all streams of objects (padArtha.oghaiH) like sun moon etc (candra.arka.Adi). The etc. probably should mean stars, planets etc. Thus, it was like the space prior to creation! The description "completely calm" also has subtle shades of meaning. It is described as svabhAva.zAnta meaning calm by nature. like pure inert space.

santoSaH paramo lAbhaH satsaGgaH paramA gatiH |
vicAraH paramaM jJAnaM zamo hi paramaM sukham ||

सन्तोषः परमो लाभः सत्सङ्गः परमा गतिः।
विचारः परमं ज्ञानं शमो हि परमं सुखम्॥
Contentment is the highest gain, Good Company the highest course,
Enquiry the highest wisdom, and Peace the highest enjoyment.
