सर्वेषाम् नर-मांसानाम् न तु तृप्तिम्_उपाययौ ॥३।७१।१॥

Even in the long course of time that ogress, crabby karkatII,
could never get enough of what she liked:
all sorts of human meat.

"What a mess!
Isn't it enough that I must take this pin-shape?

and all my powers are fading-away,

"The huge body that I had once—
where is it gone?—lost through stupidity!
Once I moved like a gathering rainstorm—

"There's little pleasure here for me—even less than a little!
Where's the sweet aroma of my meat,

I plunge into the mud.
I fall to earth, where I am trampled by the fall of feet.

I don't even have a chambermaid!
I have no mother, no father,
no relatives, no servants,
no brother for me,

न मे देहो न मे स्थानम् न मे कश्चित्_समाश्रय: ।
न_एक.स्थाने समावासो भ्राम्यामि वन-पर्णवत् ॥३।७१।९॥

"For me there is no body;
for me there's no place, no refuge at all, nowhere a place to stay—

अभावम्_अपि वाञ्छामि सो_अपि संपद्यते न मे ॥३।७१।१०॥

"Disaster is ahead of me:
I'm headed-for calamity.

"There has arisen an immense vetaala Zombie
that is the karma of my own austerities,

यथा नाशेन वा भाव्यम् तथा_उदेत्य्_अ.शुभा मति: ॥३।७१।१७॥

"What a great fool I've been, forsaking that great body!
I deserve destruction,
it's fitting reward for the work of an impure mind.

उद्धरिष्यति को नाम पांसु.राशिभिर्_आवृताम् ॥३।७१।१८॥

"I'm wrapped in this tiny thing
like the body of a worm.
And who will rescue me
who lie here hidden in the dust?"

ग्रम-मार्ग-तृणानि इव गिरेर्_उपरि वासिनाम् ॥३।७१।१९॥

The intellect of discerning
minds takes no notice of such things:
it's like grass on a village road
for dwellers on a mountainside.
स्थिताया_अज्ञता-अम्भोधौ क्व मम_अभ्युदयो भवेत् ।
अन्धस्य_उदेति प्राकाश्यम् नख-द्योत-अनुसेविन: ॥३।७१।२०॥
sthitAyA_ajJatA-ambhodhau kva mama_abhyudayo bhavet |
andhasya_udeti prAkAzyam nakha-dyota-anusevina: ||3|71|20||
"Set in a sea of ignorance,
what will my rise become?
A flash of fireflies opening blind eyes—
the glitter of my grasping nails.
AS. _khadyota is a lightning bug. Things don't become visible to a blind man by following a lightening bug.
अत: कियन्तम् नो जाने का_अलम्_आवलित-आपदम् ।
मया_आपच्-छ्वभ्र-गर्तेषु लुठितव्यम् हत-ईहया ॥३।७१।२१॥

"I don't know what-to-do:

"With pots of marrowfat and grease,
with lots of dead meat and bone—

"When can I get dead-drunk on blood,
here in Grandfather-World?

"O my arms, breakers of mountain.peaks,
with your moonlike nails

O my breast,
you were bright and lovely as a mountain.peak
no longer full of lions like lice in the forest of my hair.
AS. kAcavaidhuryagirIndralaTasundara has a typo, laTa -> taTa. This one is complicated and I disagree with both older translations. Oh my breast, (hA vakSaH), beautiful like the side of mountain without any ash (kAcavaidhUryagiritaTa -kAca has the meaning of alkaline ash also), you don't carry the animals - lions etc. (siMhAdi) which are fleas on you and also your forest of hair.
हा नेत्रे कृष्ण-रजनीरजः-शुष्क_इन्धन_एजने ।
कस्मान्_न मे भूषयतो दृग्-ज्वालामलया दिश: ॥३।७१।३७॥
hA netre kRSNa-rajanIrajaH-zuSka_indhana_ejane |

sense of fireflies, and also of Karkatî's blinding nails.

Oh my breast, (hA vakSaH), beautiful like the side of mountain without any ash (kAcavaidhUryagiritaTa -kAca has the meaning of alkaline ash also), you don't carry the animals - lions etc. (siMhAdi) which are fleas on you and also your forest of hair.
