पितामह-क्रमे स्मिंस्तस् ते बहु-भावनात्

pitAmaha-krame tasmin_tata:_te bahu-bhAvanAt |

कर्मभिस् तै: समाक्रान्त-मनस्कास् स्थुर् आदृता: ॥३।८७।१॥

karmabhi:_tai: samAkrAnta-manaskA:_tasthu:_AdRtA: ||3|87|1||

यावत् ते देहकास् तेषाम् तापने पवनैस् तैस् तथा

yAvat te dehakA:_teSAm tApane pavanai:_tathA |

कालेन शोषम् अभ्येत्य गलिता: शीर्ण-पर्णवत् ॥३।८७।२॥

kAlena zoSam abhyetya galitA: zIrNa-parNavat ||3|87|2||

जक्षुस् तान् देहकांस् तत्र क्रव्यादा वन-वासिनः ।

jakSu:_tAn_dehakAn_tatra kravyAdA vana-vAsina: |

इतश् च_इताश् च लुठितान्सुफलानि_इव मर्कटा: ॥३।८७।३॥

ita:_ca_ita:_ca luThitAn su.phalAni_iva markaTA: ||3|87|3||

अथ ते शान्त-बाह्यार्था* ब्रह्मत्वे कृत-भावनाः ।

तस्थुश् चतुर्.युगस्य_अन्ते यावत् कल्पः क्षयम् गत: ॥३।८७।४॥

atha te zAnta-bAhyArthA: brahmatve kRta-bhAvanA: |

tasthu:_catur.yugasya_ante yAvat kalpa: kSayam gata: ||3|87|4||

क्षीयमाणे तत: कल्पे तपत्य_आदित्य-संचये ।

kSIyamANe tata: kalpe tapati_Aditya-saMcaye |

पुष्कर-आवर्तकेषु_उच्चैर् वर्षत्सु कठिन.आरवम् ॥३।८७।५॥

puSkara-AvartakeSu_uccair_varSatsu kaThina-Aravam ||3|87|5||

वहत्सु कल्प-वातेषु स्थित* एक-महार्णवे ।

vahatsu kalpa-vAteSu sthita* eka-mahArNave |

क्षीणेषु भूत-वृन्देषु ते तथैव व्यवस्थिताः ॥३।८७।६॥

kSINeSu bhUta-vRndeSu te tathaiva vyavasthitA: ||3|87|6||

तत्तो रात्रि.क्रम.परे सर्वाम् संहृत्य ताम् स्थितिम् ।

tata:_rAtri.krama.pare sarvAm saMhRtya tAm sthitim |

स्थिते त्वय्य्_आत्मनि विभो ते तथैव व्यवस्थिताः ॥३।८७।७॥

sthite tvayy_Atmani vibho te tathA_eva vyavasthitA: ||3|87|7||

अद्य प्रबुद्धे भवति स्रष्टुम् इच्छति संसृतिम्

adya prabuddhe bhavati sraSTum icchati saMsRtim |

सुखेन_एव क्रमेण_च्चैस् ते थै व्यवस्थिता H ॥३।८७।८॥

sukhena_eva krameNa_uccais_te tathA_eva vyavasthitA: ||3|87|8||

तथा_एते भगवन् ब्रह्मन् ब्रह्मणो ब्राह्मणा: दश

athA_ete bhagavan brahman brahmaNa:_brAhmaNA: daza |

त* एते दश संसारा* मनो-व्योमनि संस्थिताः ॥३।८७।९॥

ta* ete daza saMsArA: mana:vyomani saMsthitA: ||3|87|9||

तेषाम् एकतमस्य_अहम् अयम् आकाश-मन्दिरे

teSAm ekatamasya_aham ayam AkAza-mandire |

भानुर् भुवि विभो काल-कल.अर्क-मणि योजितः ॥३।८७।१०॥

bhAnu:_bhuvi vibho kAla-kala.arka-maNi yojita: ||3|87|10||

एष* ते कथित: सर्गो दिशानाम् अब्ज- सम्भव

eSa: te kathita: sarga:_dizAnAm abja-sambhava |

ब्रह्मणाम् सम्भवो व्योम्नि यथा_इच्छसि तथा कुरु ॥३।८७।११॥

brahmaNAm sambhava:_vyomni yathA_icchasi tathA kuru ||3|87|11||

विविध-कल्पनया वलित.अम्बरम्

vividha-kalpanayA valita-ambaram

द् दम् उत्तम* जागतम् उत्थितम्

yat_idam uttama* jAgatam utthitam |

करण-जालकम् आहित-मोहनम्

karaNa-jAlakam Ahita-mohanam

द् अखिलम् निज-चेतसि विभ्रमः ॥३।८७।१२॥

पितामह-क्रमे तस्मिंस् ततस् ते बहु-भावनात् ।

pitAmaha-krame tasmin_tata:_te bahu-bhAvanAt |

कर्मभिस् तै: समाक्रान्त-मनस्कास् स्थुर् आदृता: ॥३।८७।१॥

karmabhi:_tai: samAkrAnta-manaskA:_tasthu:_AdRtA: ||3|87|1||

Then,

after their long reflection,

those worthies stood,

Grandfather,

with their minds amazed by what had happened

*vlm.p.1. The Sun said:— O great father of creation, in this way these venerable brAhmaNas remained at that spot for a long time, occupied in their minds with these various thoughts and their several actions.

 

यावत् ते देहकास् तेषाम् तापने पवनैस् तैस् तथा

yAvat te dehakA:_teSAm tApane pavanai:_tathA |

कालेन शोषम् अभ्येत्य गलिता: शीर्ण-पर्णवत् ॥३।८७।२॥

kAlena zoSam abhyetya galitA: zIrNa-parNavat ||3|87|2||

so it was that their bodies,

in my heat,

were seared by hot winds,

sucked dry,

withered-away like fallen leaves

At last

carnivorous cats

would play with their bodies,

flinging them here&there about the woods like monkeys tossing ripe fruit

* they jakSu.ate-: - tAn dehakAn_tatra – those bodies there – kravyAda.carnivorous-A: vana.forest-vAsi.dwell/abid.ing-na: = ita:.hence- ca.and/also - ta:.hence- ca.and/also - luThita.falling/rolling-An – su-.good\much-phala.fruit-Ani iva.like/as.if - markaTa.ape/monkey-A:

*vlm.p.3 Their dead bodies were devoured by the voracious beasts of the forest, or tossed about like some ripe fruit by monkeys on the hills.

 

अथ ते शान्त-बाह्यार्था* ब्रह्मत्वे कृत-भावनाः ।

तस्थुश् चतुर्.युगस्य_अन्ते यावत् कल्पः क्षयम् गत: ॥३।८७।४॥

atha te zAnta-bAhyArthA: brahmatve kRta-bhAvanA: |

tasthu:_catur.yugasya_ante yAvat kalpa: kSayam gata: ||3|87|4||

but

they knew peace inside-and-out,

their feeling fixed in the Immensity.

till their very end

*vlm.p.4 These brAhmaNas, their thoughts turned away from outward objects and concentrated on brahma, continued enjoying divine joy in their spirits until the close of the kalpa cycle at the end of the four ages (yuga-s).

 

क्षीयमाणे तत: कल्पे तपत्य_आदित्य-संचये ।

kSIyamANe tata: kalpe tapati_Aditya-saMcaye |

पुष्कर-आवर्तकेषु_उच्चैर् वर्षत्सु कठिन.आरवम् ॥३।८७।५॥

puSkara-AvartakeSu_uccair_varSatsu kaThina-Aravam ||3|87|5||

वहत्सु कल्प-वातेषु स्थित* एक-महार्णवे ।

vahatsu kalpa-vAteSu sthita* eka-mahArNave |

क्षीणेषु भूत-वृन्देषु ते तथैव व्यवस्थिताः ॥३।८७।६॥

kSINeSu bhUta-vRndeSu te tathaiva vyavasthitA: ||3|87|6||

तत्तो रात्रि.क्रम.परे सर्वाम् संहृत्य ताम् स्थितिम् ।

tata:_rAtri.krama.pare sarvAm saMhRtya tAm sthitim |

स्थिते त्वय्य्_आत्मनि विभो ते तथैव व्यवस्थिता ॥३।८७।७॥

sthite tvayy_Atmani vibho te tathA_eva vyavasthitA: ||3|87|7||

but then,

when the kalpa.Age ends,

when its sun's gathered heat is met

by puShkara and Avarta, the Doomsday winds,

and when the rains arise,

and all is fierce roaring,

when the winds of the kalpa blow over the One Great Ocean,

when the multitude of beings are destroyed

in the deep night,

with All subsumed.into That State

settle in yourself, sir!—

there they thus remain

*vlm.p.5 At the end of the kalpa, there is an utter extinction of sunlight by the constant rains poured down by the heavy pushkara and avartaka clouds at the great flood, *vlm.p.6 when the hurricane of desolation blew on all sides and buried all beings under the universal ocean.

*vlm.p.7 It was then your (brahma’s) dark night, and the previous creation slept as if in yogic sleep (yoga nidra) in your sleeping self. Thus, continuing in your spirit, you contained all things in their spiritual forms in yourself.

 

अद्य प्रबुद्धे भवति स्रष्टुम् इच्छति संसृतिम्

adya prabuddhe bhavati sraSTum icchati saMsRtim |

सुखेन_एव क्रमेण_उच्चैस् ते तथैव व्यवस्थिता H ॥३।८७।८॥

थैते भगवन् ब्रह्मन् ब्रह्मणो ब्राह्मणा: दश

while you're awake,

wishing to create your own creation,

they rest happily above.

 

thus, Lord Brahmaa, those ten brAhmaNas in the brahman.Immensity,

those very ten,

are found here in the saMsAra of this Mind-Space

adya.now whin prabuddhi.xx-e bhavati.becoming sraSTum.xx- icchati.xx- saMsRti.evolution.m by/with sukha.good.space/happy-ena eva.indeed/so - krameNa.by.degrees/gradually. uccais.high/loud/much.xx- te.they/thee- tathA.thus/in.that.way- eva.indeed/so - vyavasthita.xx-A: tathA.thus/in.that.way- ete.these., Lord.Bhagavan, brahman.xx- brahmaNa:.xx- brAhmaNA:.xx- daza.ten- = te.they/thee- ete.these daza.ten- saMsAra.convolution-A: in the manas.Mind-vyom.spacious.sky-ani saMsthita.abiding/enduring.as-tA:

*vlm.p.8 Upon your waking this day with your desire of creation, all these things are exhibited to your view, like a copy of everything that was already in your inmost mind or Spirit.

*vlm.p.9 I have thus related to you O brahma, how these ten brAhmaNas were personified as so many brahmas. These ten have become the ten bright orbs situated in the empty sphere of your mind.

*AB. While you are awakened today and are desirous of creation, they are comfortably situated high above, as before, in their proper order.

* adya.now whin prabuddhi.xx-e bhavati.becoming sraSTum.xx- icchati.xx- saMsRti.evolution.m by/with sukha.good.space/happy-ena eva.indeed/so - krameNa.by.degrees/gradually. uccais.high/loud/much.xx- te.they/thee- tathA.thus/in.that.way- eva.indeed/so - vyavasthita.xx-A: tathA.thus/in.that.way- ete.these., Lord.Bhagavan, brahman.xx- brahmaNa:.xx- brAhmaNA:.xx- daza.ten- = te.they/thee- ete.these daza.ten- saMsAra.convolution-A: in the manas.Mind-vyom.spacious.sky-ani saMsthita.abiding/enduring.as-tA:

I am the eldest of the ten,

appointed as the Bright Jewel that measures time on Earth,

Sir,

here,

in the temple of Outer Space

.e = bhAnu.sun-: bhuvi.on.earth- vibho.hey.sir kAla.time-kala.part/phase.arka.sun/star-maNi.jewel/Wishing.stone yojita.employed/performed\undertaken\begun/tied.to/joined.together.:

*vlm.p.10 I am the eldest among them, consecrated in this temple of the sky, and appointed by you, O lord of all, to regulate the portions of time on earthly beings.

*vlm.p.11 Now I have given you a full account of the ten orbs of heaven, which are no other than the ten persons united in the mind of brahma, and now appearing as detached from him.

so now you have been told about the creation,

about the ten directions, Lotus-born;

about the birth of ten Brahmas in Space

:

knowing all this, do as you wish
