Dan/All:
The adapters I've been using are "NOT" Samsung OEM, but Chinese similar.
 It appears that might be my problem, the only connection that is working is the "Samsung OEM" real cable to the computer to act as a "storage device" when using the "look alike" adapter it will not even be recognized as a storage device on my PC. Furthermore adding a female/female usb adapter to that connector will not work either. I am to believe Samsung has that cable special wired only to charge and recognize as a storage device.
I have ordered (online) 2 different types of "Samsung OEM" usb adapters, once they arrive I'll continue testing.

Is not like on a Windows computer. Each time you connect the USN/serial
device to Android, based on VID:PID the system knows which application
can use that specific device and ask yu to start one of them. After that
you have the option to automatically start a specific app when the
device is connected (for example if is only one).
