MapLight is currently hiring for a full-time, partially remote Operations Associate.
Join us in improving democracy through increased transparency in campaign finance. MapLight is a small nonprofit based out of Berkeley, CA, and we provide campaign finance, lobbying, and ethics disclosure solutions to state and local governments. We support transparency and believe that everyone deserves an equal voice in our democracy. We are nonprofit and nonpartisan.

This position will play a key role in supporting the Director of Operations with managing the day-to-day operations of our organization, with primary responsibilities focused on administration, finances, development, and systems processes.

As MapLight is a small team, we are seeking someone who is flexible, adaptive, and collaborative. An ideal candidate would be highly organized and detail-oriented. They would have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a generalist skill set, and an eagerness to learn new skills. This position is full-time and mostly remote, with onsite work in the Berkeley, California office one day a week.

In this role you will provide:

Operations Support
Monitor general inbox and respond to external inquiries as a representative of MapLight
Create, maintain, and update internal documentation of processes and workflows
Assist Director of Operations with hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance operations efficiency

Accounting Support
Support our accounting firm’s needs, including routing incoming invoices for approval, maintaining deposit logs, and appropriately coding credit card and reimbursement expenses

Development Support
Maintain electronic files of donations
Generate donor acknowledgment letters on a rolling basis and annual year-end mailing
Track project proposals through sales pipeline and maintain tracking of potential funders

General and Special Projects Support
Assist with ad hoc tasks and special projects as needed

Ideal candidates will possess many of the following qualifications:
Minimum 2 years experience in an operations, administrative, or program management role
Strong organizational skills that reflect an ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with a high level of attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills with a desire to work collaboratively
Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving
The ability to execute projects independently while exercising good judgment and discretion
Strong computer proficiency, ideally with some experience in database, CRM, or project management programs
The ability to pivot and adjust priorities responsive to short- and long-term needs
Demonstrated initiative to helping improve processes and work culture
Interest in learn new technologies and skills

Salary & Benefits
This position is full-time and mostly remote, with the expectation of onsite work at the Berkeley office one day a week. MapLight also has two weeklong staff retreats a year, which are currently held in Berkeley.

The salary for this position is $55,000 to $70,000, depending on experience. This position includes a generous benefits package that includes paid vacation, health, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement matching.
