Reports to: Northwest Regional Director
Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: The position is located in the San Francisco Bay Area (Currently Remote)
Position
Are you interested in growing J Street’s campus program, J Street U, in the Northwest region? Do you want to help engage and inspire students to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, an end to the occupation and principled, effective US diplomacy in the Middle East?
J Street is looking for the newest member of our Young Leadership/JSU team who will focus on growing J Street U, the student arm of the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement. The candidate hired for this position will have interest and experience in youth empowerment and a desire to strengthen the Jewish American progressive voice on Israel -- on campus, in the Jewish community, and within the arenas of American politics and policy.
The JSU/ Young Leadership Regional Coordinator will be a member of J Street’s Regional Team based in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as a member of the national staff of J Street U, the organization’s campus program. The Regional Coordinator will find and develop talented student leaders and help them build and expand J Street U chapters and presences on their campuses.
The Regional Coordinator engages students both in campus-based activism as well as in J Street’s work off campus - policy advocacy, political engagement and Jewish communal work. In addition to campus-based work, J Street U engages students in in-district meetings with members of Congress, events in support of JStreetPAC-endorsed Congressional candidates, partnering with local clergy and much more.
The ideal candidate will have qualities that lend themselves to successful student engagement and organizing: strong instincts for campus politics and chapter growth, a knowledge of student leadership and creativity in developing tactics to advance Israeli-Palestinian peace. The candidate will be passionate about opposing the occupation and promoting Jewish and democratic values. They will be interested in how student activism can help drive change and progress within the Jewish community and American politics.
