Summer Program Assistant

 

Are you looking for a fun summer job that is fulfilling in helping at-risk youths from diverse backgrounds?  Do you want to nurture them as life-long learners and promote their strengths to prepare them for college?  Is this you?

 

Southeast Asian Development Center (SEADC) seeks Summer Program Assistants to assist with preparing and facilitating workshops focusing on academic, life skills, health, and enriching activities during our Summer Adventure Camp 2021.  Workshops and activities will be conducted at our Center and at off-site locations.  As the Summer Program Assistant, you will help in the planning and overseeing the Field Trips.  You will help support our K-8 youth participants with homework, tutoring, social and cultural activities in a nurturing learning environment and oversee the Leaders in Training program.  

 

The Youth Development Department’s goal is to prepare youth in grades kindergarten through high school to be college and work ready.  The department’s programs include daily out of school time program activities for K-12 graders focusing on tutoring, homework support, life skills and enriching social/cultural activities, teen leadership development activities, career exploration and job placements.

Due to COVID-19, all staff are working remotely; due to community needs, all staff will be required to support direct programming in areas such as youth engage in-person community hubs, distributing food and PPE and or assisting in-person clients to access COVID-19 testing and other needed client support.

 

Compensation: $19 - $22 / hour

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supports Youth Development Specialist to implement the summer programs; workshop facilitation; gathers materials for events and projects
  • Plans and facilitates 1-2 workshops weekly; implements community responsive and culturally relevant curriculum focused on Identity, Leadership, Academic Enrichment, and Health and Wellness
  • Assists in overseeing Leaders in Training program and K-8 youth participants; provides observations and feedback
  • Ensures the safety of the youth participants
  •  Assists with K-12 activities and homework help
  • Assists inputting attendance and client data into databases; maintains and updates online and hard copy files and documents
  •  Creates outreach and recruitment fliers and materials
  • Attends agency events and meetings, team meetings and trainings; funder required trainings; weekly in-person programming


Qualifications:

  • A passion for SEADC’s mission   
  • ·Bachelor's degree or a minimum two-year college study
  • 2-years’ experience with clients from low-income community
  • Bilingual in a Southeast Asian language (Cambodian, Lao or Vietnamese) is a plus 
  • Experience working with diverse youth from a range of backgrounds and experiences; develop strong, nurturing relationships; guidance and mentorship 
  •  Knowledge of youth development is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong knowledge of reading, writing and math
  • Able to lead small groups of students with homework support
  • Demonstrate compassion, patience, reliability, professionalism, and behavior management skills 
  • Able to adapt to situations and work independently and within a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to details and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Be flexible with varying schedules and activities
