San Francisco Bay Area Launches Community Health Workers Association

On May 4, 2016, a group of CHW workers, students, academics and other public health professionals met to form the Bay Area’s first CHW professional association. The Community Health Workers Network of the San Francisco Bay Area will meet regularly to organize a coordinated approach to the growing demand in the local CHW community for a wide range of needs including CHW visibility and recruiting,
earnings, scope of practice, training and professional development, as well as providing critical input on state and local policies affecting the profession.

The event was well attended by approximately 40 people, who expressed enthusiasm for moving forward with the organization. Immediate issues identified were how best to structure and fund the new entity.

The Community Health Workers Network of the San Francisco Bay Area will initially meet quarterly. The next meeting is slated for August. If you or someone you know would like to attend the next meeting , please contact info@chwn-sfba.org or check www.chwn-sfba.org
