I am writing to let you know about a volunteer native seed collection opportunity.
Pollinator Partnership (P2), a pollinator conservation non-profit based in San Francisco, has joined forces with several partner organizations to expand
Project Wingspan, our native seed collection and habitat enhancement program, into the Bay Area for the first time and we need your help!
We are looking for enthusiastic seed collecting volunteers in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties to help identify and collect milkweed and other pollinator-friendly native plants. As a seed collecting volunteer, you will be provided with the training needed to make valuable contributions to migrating monarchs and other imperiled pollinators. No seed collecting experience is required, but basic plant knowledge is preferred.
How does it work? Volunteers and Pollinator Partnership staff will collect native, local ecotype seed from nectar and forage plants from various parks, preserves, and other collection sites. This seed will be cleaned, tested, and either amplified or grown as plugs by our nursery partner. These amplified seeds and plants will be distributed for free to habitat planting projects in the area the seed was collected in.
