Our second offering of 'How You Be?' Radical Visioning as Black Leaders starts THIS WEEK on Friday, April 4th! Black leaders looking to reground and rejuvenate with a supportive group of values-aligned peers, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. The last day to register is in 2 days—THIS Wednesday, April 2nd by 4pm Pacific.
Oftentimes when Black folks step into greater power and responsibility, they inherit old visions and outdated traditions of enacting leadership that don't necessarily align with or fully capture their brilliance, values, and potential.
Our latest Black leadership program, 'How You Be?', aims to support Black folks in leadership to meet this challenge through an emphasis on (re)imagination, joy, rest, and community care. This three-part online learning series provides the time, spaciousness, peer support, and resources for Black folks to grow their creativity and vision in order to reground in their purpose and increase their transformative impact on the organizations, communities, and movements they lead.

'How You Be?' Program Alum & BRAVE Bay Area Executive Director Leah Kimble-Price Reflects on How the Series
Impacted Her Leadership

I was definitely at a crossroads when I came to the training. It was perfect timing. There were some big decisions to be made at my org. I think even just being in that incubator of being reminded of what taking care of myself means [helped me to remember that] just because I'm good at things that help other people doesn't mean that's my only purpose. I'm the power-holder and the decision-maker in my org, but not all of those decisions or all that power benefits me. I think that was a huge turning point for me in our process, realizing I had been giving power away. I'm powerful enough to give it away, and so I'm powerful enough to keep it, as well.
I think the reminders of where my radical identity began as a child and how that plays out [in the present] isn't something I had thought of in a very long time. And so being in this cohort, it was like "Oh yeah, you know how to not engage in reactivity." For folks who are coming into this space, the timing will continue to be good. There will continue to be outside forces inspiring us and activating us, and I think [participating in the series] was the first time in a long time that I utilized my skill set to my own benefit.
I think there were folks who are natural leaders who were coming to find out what does that mean in structures, and there are those of us who are structural leaders who are trying to get back to our natural leadership. I think both of those are great candidates [for this program]: folks who hold leadership roles in a formal way, in a way that they make money, and also folks who hold leadership roles in how they hold their household, how they are in their relationships. I think all of those are super valuable. And I do think it's important to be able to give the time. I realized very immediately [when I first signed up] "Oh, I have time for this. I have time for this."
