 School Mental Health Counselor (Part-time Position for February - June, 2017)

Leadership Public Schools (LPS) is a network of urban charter high schools whose mission is to create educational equity. The School Mental Health Counselor provides education-related mental health services and support to Special Education students in need of social-emotional support and skill-building. Services may include talk therapy as well as art, mindfulness, movement, or modalities of therapeutic support. The Counselor works in close collaboration with the Special Education team and coordinates as needed with general education teachers, parents, and other involved providers to effectively support each student.  


Responsibilities:


Student Support:

  • Provide educational related mental health services (ERMHS) to students with IEPs
  • Work with students to collaboratively monitor progress toward meeting related IEP goals.
  • Maintain a “student-centered” stance continuously guided by students’ own voices, stories, priorities, goals, hopes and dreams
  • Develop support and intervention strategies to increase academic success
  • Participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings in conjunction with serving Special Education eligible students

School and Network:

  • Participate in weekly Special Education team meeting
  • Document services and continually monitor student growth and progress utilizing provided data tools and practices
  • Collaborate with school leaders and teams to continually improve support for students
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned to meet the needs of our students

Qualifications:

  • PPS credential required
  • Ability to connect personally with urban high school students
  • Cultural responsiveness, critical consciousness and bilingual/bicultural skills highly valued
  • High expectations for all students
  • Experience with collaborative work
  • Excellent communicator and facilitator
  • Experience with systems and using data
  • Project management skills
  • Comfortable with a start-up environment, including fast growth and flexible roles
