Rockwood Leadership Institute in Oakland, CA is hiring for a Communications & Media Relations Manager:
We’re looking to hire someone who loves crafting and pitching content, understands the value of good storytelling and strong data, and is interested in expanding their skills and knowledge in the area of communications and marketing.
This position reports to the Senior Marketing & Communications Manager, and will work in close collaboration with all Rockwood’s various teams (including the President and Chief Executive Officer) on-site at our Oakland, CA office.

· Create and Craft Content
o Write posts on a wide range of topics for Rockwood’s blog
o Provide feedback to other contributors, and edit other writers’ content
o Work with Senior Communications & Marketing Manager to develop content, both for other blogs / publications, and our own
o Contribute to other content projects as needed
· Media Relations
o Connect with influential media outlets, journalists, and thought leaders to place content written by and about Rockwood
o Create content for media outlets to grow Rockwood’s footprint (press releases, announcements, creative content, etc.)
o Collaborate with key stakeholders (including executives) to craft and pitch press releases and thought leadership pieces
o Establish a sustainable, strategic approach to PR based on adding value to media outlets and building partnerships
· Storybanking / Research
o Gather stories from Rockwood’s network of staff, alums, funders, and other community members to create content
o Interview alums, and create content based on their stories
o Develop research-based content products (blog posts, white papers, case studies, reports, etc.) that share Rockwood’s story and value with the world
· General Duties
o Support Senior Communications & Marketing Manager with special projects
o Stay on top of nonprofit marketing/communications tools and best practices, as well as topics relevant to Rockwood (leadership, nonprofits, mindfulness, etc.)
· Experience in the nonprofit / “social good” (B-Corp) world, or a related professional setting
· Experience writing and developing content for different audiences and topics
· Ability to edit creatively, beyond just grammar and spelling
· Experience pitching stories to news outlets or other types of publications (blogs, etc.)
· Experience working in diverse, high-performing environments with many different types of people and teams
