The Opportunity

The financial coach provides direct services to low to moderate-income individuals who are receiving services onsite at the Mexican Consulate, as part of the “Ventanilla Financiera” initiative. The Ventanilla is a partnership between the Mexican Consulate and MAF to provide financial empowerment services to Consulate visitors to help underserved communities get access to crucial and tailored resources that can improve financial health.

MAF operates “Ventanilla Financieras” at the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco and San Jose. The coach engages and motivates clients, and assists them in building action plans that help move towards financial security and stability. The financial coach teaches educational workshops, assists clients 1-1 to identify financial needs and goals, provides tailored resources and referrals, and delivers key information in a fast-paced environment to a diverse community with a range of financial needs.

The financial coach will directly report to MAF’s Director of Programs and will be a liaison with Mexican Consulate staff to ensure clients are receiving the best quality of services possible.

The Role

Financial coaching involves an ability to engage and motivate clients, a strong understanding of personal finances, and the ability to impart that knowledge to others. The financial coach is responsible for guiding clients in developing action plans that are intended to engage clients with respect, and take a strengths based approach to help someone realize their goals to achieve financial stability.

The financial coach is expected to deliver services in a group and one-on-one format. Group activities include short “platicas” (3-20 minute mini-presentations) about a variety of financial topics, including: ways to build credit and what to consider when shopping for an affordable loan. Individualized action plans include a list of next steps, background information and referrals and may touch on several topics like budgeting, banking products and emergency savings.

The financial coach will work with MAF’s direct services team and will also serve as liaison to the consulate staff. The financial coach works onsite at the Mexican Consulate for approximately 30 hours a week and reports directly to MAF’s Director of Programs.

Compensation: This is a part-time and non-exempt position with a competitive salary.
