Position Summary
The Director, Strategy is a strategy project lead who provides critical support and thought partnership to LEE’s Senior Director, Strategy. The Director will have exceptional project management skills with experience in product development and product strategy. This person will be able to clearly articulate objectives and develop a clear analytical framework. They will have strong data analytical skills and be an exceptional communicator with experience working with numerous stakeholders on complex projects and solutions.
The Director, Strategy will report to LEE’s Senior Director, Strategy. The successful candidate will have:
- An advanced degree (MBA preferred);
- exceptional quantitative analytical skills;
- experience with product strategy;
- experience managing major complex projects with multiple stakeholders for a strategy team or strategy consulting organization; and
- a passion for LEE’s mission.
Location: Flexible, preference for New York City or Washington D.C.
Travel Requirements: 10%
Responsibilities
- Leading major product and program strategy projects and owning project management, stakeholder management, goals and objectives development, and data and analytics on long-term large-scale projects
- Developing major projects and achieving organization-wide alignment, adoption, and implementation
- Working across the organization as a strategy project manager to drive impact through numerous internal engagements and ad-hoc analysis on key strategic issues facing the organization
- Translating business needs into analytic questions and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses that yield deep and actionable insights for the organization
- With guidance from the Senior Director, scoping, structuring, and managing projects and project teams with the ability to simultaneously hone in on work details and manage at a high level
- Supporting the Senior Director on organizational strategy projects and annual strategic planning and playing a supportive role to other team members managing large projects internally
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum five years of full-time work experience
- Two years post-graduate work experience, or equivalent work experience without a graduate degree
- Three years of strategy or management consulting experience as a project lead
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to lead project execution through working with diverse stakeholders in a complex, matrix organizational model
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree strongly preferred, MBA preferred
- Five or more years of strategy or management consulting experience as a project lead
- 8-12 years of full-time work experience
- Strong project management skills
- Experience leading major project implementations with multiple teams and stakeholders leading the project from conceptualization through long-term development and implementation
- Strong strategic thinking and the ability to frame and scope project approaches independently and drive concise insightful analysis to recommendations and actions
- Experience in online and/or technology product development or product strategy
- High fluency in online engagement platforms, online learning, and/or scaling organizational impact through online tools
- Comfortable working on a geographically dispersed or virtual team/organization and working in a startup-like environment
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to provide logical, next steps towards action items to move thinking and planning forward
- Deep passion for educational equity and belief in LEE’s theory of change
