Position Summary
The Director, Diversity and Equity Leadership Development serves on the Leadership Development and Design (LDD) team and works to design and deliver leadership development experiences for members focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), as well as support and build capacity of other staff to lead this work.  The Director is responsible for designing and revising curriculum, coaching guides and other materials to align with LEE’s liberatory consciousness development model.  They will also advise and support staff on other member-facing teams (Organizing Leadership, Policy and Advocacy, Elected Leadership and Regional Impact) in designing and executing trainings, coaching and other types of member engagement from a DEI lens.  Finally, they will work closely with our Talent, Learning, Culture team to ensure alignment between staff and member development.
 
The Director ensures that all LEE members are supported, inspired, and equipped to engage critically and work to dismantle systems of oppression in their pursuit of leadership opportunities to advance educational equity and excellence for all children.  This position reports to the Senior Director, Diversity and Equity Leadership Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the expansion, rollout and integration of the liberatory consciousness development model across all member facing work;
  • Updating and maintaining a comprehensive content library of lesson plans, training materials and other resources related to DEI;
  • Designing and/or revising curriculum, coaching guides and other materials to support the integration of the liberatory consciousness development model across the member engagement continuum;
  • Advising and partnering directly with other teams on member engagement and development opportunities from a DEI lens (e.g., events, recruitment strategies, Regional Strategy Team development, candidate recruitment and development, etc.);
  • Providing ongoing coaching, development and support to member-facing staff to strengthen their practice in coaching, facilitating and engaging members from a DEI lens;
  • Partnering with Talent, Learning, Culture team to create/provide staff training and development and ensure continuity across staff and member development experiences for leading DEI work; and
  • Developing competencies to assess member DEI learning and aligned assessments and evaluation tools to measure growth and development.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least seven years of professional experience
  • Experience developing curriculum and designing experiential trainings for adult learners
  • Strong training and facilitation skills, including a thorough understanding of adult learning principles and effective training methodologies, especially from a DEI lens
  • Experience coaching leaders and playing a role in their long-term leadership development
  • Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with diverse audiences and partners
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation of plans in fast-moving, changeable environments
  • Flexible schedule, including willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time and ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • At least two years of experience working directly on topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion​
  • Volunteer or professional experience in policy, advocacy, organizing or elected leadership
