Hi all,
We're only a few weeks out from our annual all-day singing on Sunday, April 19 (10 am–3 pm in Rosenfeld Hall), and I am so excited to sing with you all! I'm also thrilled that we've received an exceptional number of requests for hospitality this year, which makes me feel so proud of our community and the reputation it's fostered—of being skillful singers and leaders and cooks, of being frequent and reciprocal travelers, of knowing how to put on a good day of singing.* I'm thinking this year may be our largest ever.
This also means that we're looking for more members of our community than usual who might be able to offer hospitality to traveling singers on April 18, the night prior. Drop me a note if this might be you (directly to
charle...@gmail.com, or it will be swallowed in the ether).
Things that would be helpful to share: where you live, how many people you can host, what kind of sleeping surfaces you can offer (beds are great, but so are couches, air mattresses, and floor space), if you have any animals in the home, and anything else that you might want guests to know.
Being able to offer traveling singers a place to stay is one of the things I love most about the culture of the Sacred Harp community. In the sixteen years or so I've been a member I've stayed with singers across the world—in Washington and Oregon, in Maine and Minnesota, in Connecticut and Vermont, in New York and Pennsylvania, in Scotland and England and Sweden—and also hosted singers from many of those places and more. Not only is this a great way to get to know fellow singers better, but it is also sometimes the difference between someone being able to attend a singing or not attending at all.
Thank you so much for your consideration, and I'm so excited to sing with you all in a few weeks!
Best,
Charles
* The more cynically-minded may choose instead to observe that for once our singing doesn't conflict with Easter or Passover.
