There is actually a pretty good reason for this. Say you are running Base Toad
(commercial) and you want to try out the DBA module. Quest can give you a trial
key for the DBA module and when that expires, Toad will go back to using your
original commercial key.
Mine's the same way, which I just assumed was a limitation. However, the PDF download from: www.toadworld.com/.../539.toad-for-oracle-freeware-vs-commercial.aspx
doesn't explicitly state so (unless it falls under the purview of "Graphically represent objects"?), and the link in that document appears to be a zero-length file.
Suppose you want to export data whenever a given table is updated, so that the data can be used elsewhere. Toad for Oracle Base lets you automate and schedule the periodic export of data in a clean report format. Having the export function easily accessible in the commercial version is a big differentiator.

I have succesfully setup the instant client with sqlplus connecting to database correctly. Now on starting Toad 9.7.2 commercial My service name as specified in the tnsnames.ora does shows up under database but there is no instant client showing there .
Earlier i had ran TOAD 12 TRIAL and it it worked with the same instant client nicely .
Yes, i did that with cmd . Pinged and saw two service names which were listed by listener . These are CLRExecProc and PLSExecProc if i am remembering it corrrectly .AFter editing my tnsnames.ora file with service name listed by listener and On hitting connect button i got a net8 admin error this time . Tried logon option of oracleservicesXE under services.msc . AFter restarting too , not able to see the results .
I am trying to connect Oracle 10g database server from my client PC using toad 10 Commercial. I have Oracle 10g installed in my PC. When I try to connect, it gives error Can't initialize OCI.Error -1 . So far I am able to perform tnsping to the oracle server. I have all the settings working in my tnsnames.ora.Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
Not sure what other stuff is installed on your laptop / desktop. But I had Toad 11.6 and then I installed other oracle realted product that created another homes. Below suggestions did NOT work for me :
Possibly you will have installed Oracle and Oracle Express, so any configuration environment variables could be modified, if this is the case, login DIRECT and not TNSNAME and settings would localhost 1521 option serviceName: xe, leaving Connecting Using always the customer oracle eg Instant Client - 11.2
There were some bugs with the Git provider in Toad 12.7 and Toad 12.8. These bugs were addressed with Toad 12.9. If you're current on your maintenance, I would simply recommend downloading the commercial version of Toad for Oracle 12.9 and use that. Your existing license should carry over.
