NEA Jazz-master and 10 time Grammy Award winner Eddie Palmieri gave a free concert in Bryant Park on Thursday to a capacity audience. Many contributed to capturing the performance, resulting in
this audio-video recording of the entire event. Although it is not easy to relay the feeling of being in the audience,
you may still enjoy the virtuosity of the musicians who were on the stage that night. My only critical comment was that this was billed as a 'picnic' on the lawn and not an actual dance or dance optional event. As such, those who wanted to dance had very
few options and little room to improvise. I'd hope that for similar events in the future, some safe space would be provided for those who wish to fully enjoy the experience through dancing.
An additional note on Carlos Konig's bandshell social, scheduled for 9/13. This event apparently ran in conflict with a concert, that was in easy earshot of the bandshell, and the powers that be decided to cancel Carlos' event. Unfortunately, I didn't find
out about the change until I arrived at the empty bandshell Friday evening !
I suppose this is a warning that you should always do that last minute check before heading out to these free offerings, as anything can happen. Check the Salsa New York.com site , under Metro area Salsa Dancing Events for news of a new date for this
social.
