Netflix just won't work with the new Orbi. We're getting an error message stating that it looks like we're using an unblocker or VPN...we're not. The guy at Netflix told my wife that, in effect, Netflix doesn't work with Orbi because of the way devices switch between one unit and the other to get the best signal, or something like that. I switched back to our older Netgear router and everything's perfect.
We had the Orbi hard wired into an Arris cable modem from our ISP. All the devices (Sony smart TV, 2 PC laptops, Chromebook, 3iPhones on wifi. Great signal and functionality with everything but Netflix. Took the Orbi off and put our Netgear Nighthawk (R7000) back in and Netflix was immeditely great.
Could also be that the switch to Orbi prompted a DHCP address change from the ISP, and the one the OP got just so happened to previously be assigned to someone who was known to run a relay like Tor. If that's the case, it'll expire on its own...eventually.
I think they're going to have to come up with a better excuse than this. If Orbi had this problem, then all the other distributed/mesh systems out there should also be "incompatable" with Netflix. This is not the case, though. Whether or not you are jumping from satellite to satellite would be completely transparent to Netflix.
As a test, I just started a Netflix stream on my laptop and then started moving around the house. I verifiably saw my laptop jump from one Orbi satellite to another, and Netflix never missed a beat. So, gotta call b.s. on their claim that "Netflix doesn't work with Orbi".
Occasionally on my TV's built in app netflix hiccups - I think this is more a netflix issue. Try signing out of the app and back in. No problems on iPads, chromecasts, and netflix all sorts of different places and locations. Perhaps try a different wifi channel if you're in a congested wifi neighborhood. Try channel 1 or 11.
Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Enjoy.
Hi There - I just set up a AC1900 Wireless MU-MIMO Gigabit Router Archer A9 (which for some reason isnt an option from the model list up there) and it is lovely - my phone, tablet, computer, google home devices are all working great. However, netflix on my TCL smart TV won't work. The TV itself is connected and other channels (such as amazon prime) work. Netflix keeps giving me error codes tvq-st-103 and tvq-st-131, saying it can't connect to the network. I can watch netflix on my other devices. I've tried the obvious things like restarting the network by unplugging everything and then plugging back in one at a time, resetting the netflix login, returning the TV to factory settings... It's gotta be something with the router but I can't figure out what. Anyone here have any smart ideas?
You can try to factory default the router by holding the reset for 15 seconds. When the router is back up connect to the default Wi-Fi and test the connection. By default the router can not block specific traffic, but there might have been something adjusted which defaulting will clear out.
If the issue still happens it would be best to contact Netflix to see if there are any settings to adjust or to try since streaming services work with the router from other companies as other devices.
There could be regional differences affecting your connection. We recommend creating a thread on our global community. community.tp-link.com/en. This community, community.tp-link.com/us is only able to assist customers in the U.S. While issues may seem to be the same issue and in somecases they are its always best to interact with the team best able to handle your particular concerns.
Because i am also a consumer i do get annoyed when companies say this but in this case the first thing to do is reach out to the manufacture of the TV and troubleshoot their device first. This is because since its the only device having issues the troubleshooting would want to begin at the client and not the router. If more devices were having the same issue then it would be one thing but with just one experiancing this issue that is where you would want to start.
Netflix will not load on any wireless device on the wireless network. My phone and TV cannot connect. My sister-in-law tried to connect on her phone under a different sign in, but could not. The app on the TV times out and provides an error message, while the app on the phone spins endlessly trying to load. I can watch Netflix on my desktop computer which is hard-wired to my router.
if it works on "802.11a/n/ac mixed" ... it means TP-LINK borked the wifi on the AX50, I also own this router and it currently is just in AP mode since i used a different router for the main router, the main router is running OPENWRT and I have SQM installed on it to auto manage bandwidth for my devices.
thanks for your reply! I am not on Smart Connect. I changed the settings as directed, still having the same issues on phone and TV. There were a few different wireless settings- I was already on the one you had recommended. I tried switching to the other two, but no dice.
its normal not to see the 5Ghz frequency when you turn on SMART CONNECT since it combines the SSiD or network name to just one name, usually the name of the 2.4Ghz network and the router manages which devices connect to the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz frequencies.
I managed to get Netflix, YT and Google TV to work when under IPv6 - MAC Clone - Router Mac Adress I set it to Clone Current Device Mac. I have now just one iPhone that connects to network but without internet. Also changed my DNS adresses to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
I am not seeing anywhere that I can change my DNS. I've been in the settings there, but it's not clear to me how to do it. Admittedly, I'm a bit out of my depth fiddling with these kinds of settings.
I have not downgraded firmware, but other threads have indicated that doesn't do anything. This seems to be a common enough problem on these devices that I am honestly confused why there has not been a patch to address it.
I recently set up an OpenWRT router with client pptp, the router and VPN access work fine, but I can't get Netflix to work on smart tv.
I am using Private Internet Access.
The TV is connected via ETHERNET cable.
Youtube works perfectly, only netfix doesn't work.
assuming this diagnosis is correct ( likely )... the simple answer is "you don't"... the most common/pragmatic solution for this situation is to use Policy Routing to send netflix traffic only over the regular WAN and not the VPN.
You may also let netflix know... as a paying user, that this policy is not to your liking. Good luck with that... but assuming 15% of their user base did this tomorrow and then cancelled subscriptions.... you'd wonder what might result.
I read about redirect of port 80 and 443 for incomming connection, but that's not my case. First, i have a webserver running on my home and port 80 and 443 are redirected to this server (internal IP different from Smart TV). Second, I tried to redirect port 80 and 443 to my internal TV address; stil not working.
Before this, I had a simple Wireless router doing routing on my home and everything was working fine, including Netflix. Also, in my smart TV, I CAN access and brownse Netflix. Te problem is when I try to start streaming....they sai that is not possible to play, to check latter. If I switch to my old router (wireless TPLink router), everything start to work.
Why don't you run a wireshark now?
The TV should be able to access the internet like every other host, using Netflix should not need port translations inbound or outbound. The TV will try to connect to one of Netflix's Public IP addresses and will then start a stream on a Port which I believe it 80 or 443.
2) I've conected my old router as a main router and disconnected cisco. Opened TV and Netflix. Start streaming a serie. Stop streaming, but keep netflix opened. Disconnect old router and connect Cisco again, as main router (keeping both same IP, but only one 'on' at same time). Start streaming and works.
So, looks like my TV isn't reaching DNS for streaming netflix.....also, when I open "Samsung Apps", I can't see icons.....everything works, except load of 'icon' for applications. In the old router, this doesn't ocour, all is fine. I alread tried to change DNS on my TV to: my cisco router (has DNS server relay configured); my local DNS server; my ISP DNS server; google DNS server (8.8.8.8); In all cases, TV Network status report that everything is ok and TV CAN reach internet, but still the same problem with Samsung Apps and Netflix streaming. The strange thing is that netflix open, get titles, my account info, etc etc......just streaming doesn't work!
From everything I have read you need to port forward 80 and 443 but then you say you tried that and in addition with your test of disconnecting old router and putting Cisco in it's place it carried on streaming so perhaps not.
Hi @grenjs, I'm sorry to hear you are having intermittent connection problems. Testing your connection there doesn't look to be anything out of place from our side to the router and given the description of the issue I feel it could be something to do with the wireless settings. I'd advise then to follow the steps below on splitting the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless frequency within the router (as by default it comes paired) and then your devices by default will remain connected to the standard 2.4GHz wireless as opossed tot he 5GHz where I feel the issue may be being caused.
1) To connect to your Hub One, you will need to open a browser and go to 192.168.1.254 If you have any issues doing this via Wireless, we recommend trying to do it via Ethernet cable instead.
2) You should come to a page with information about your connection, click 'Advanced Settings' at the top and it will ask you to sign in with a Password. This is located on the back of your router under 'Admin Password'
3) Select the option for 'Wireless' followed by '5 GHz Wireless'.
4a) To split up the frequencies:
What we want to do to begin with is turn 'Sync with 2.4 GHz Wireless' to 'No' and update the SSID to be different. The easiest way would be to add '-5G' to the end so it is identified as its own connection.
4b) To disable the 5Ghz frequency:
On this page you'' need to turn 'Sync with 2.4 GHz Wireless' to 'No' followed by turning 'Wireless network enable' to 'No' also. If worked after pressing 'Apply' a wifi red light should appear on the router and the 2.4GHz standard wireless channel still showing available on your devices.
Let us know how it goes with your devices solely connected to the 2.4GHz frequency and if the issue persists.
