Notes from Stewardship: Very often the focus of stewardship is around
the church’s finances and people’s offerings. Today I would like to
talk about another facet of stewardship. Yellowknife has a congregation
blessed with an abundant of talents. We have people who preach (and not
just the minister), people who lead worship, singers, cooks, crafters,
and artisans. The list could go on and on. These individuals share
their time, and their talents in service to God. that is what
stewardship is all about offering back our gifts, our loves, and our
lives, to God’s care for the good of our world.

2026 Annual Meeting NWT Community Services Corporation

The N.W.T. Community Services Corporation is a not-for-profit body
established to manage and operate Northern United Place on behalf of its
members.

Each person who is a resident of Yellowknife and on the Historical Roll
of the Yellowknife United Church is a member of the N.W.T. Community
Services Corporation. The Board for the Corporation is made up of 6
Yellowknife United Church members and 3 members from the Yellowknife
community.

Northern United Place provides affordable housing primarily for seniors,
single persons, newcomers, and persons with disabilities. It provides
classroom space for Aurora College Yellowknife Campus and their student
residence. NUP also provides working and recreational space for various
non-profit and community organizations and a place for religious worship
and church activities in the multi-purpose auditorium and the Chapel.

The Annual General Meeting of the members of the Corporation will take
place:

SUNDAY, APRIL 19, 2026
Northern United Place Auditorium
Following the Yellowknife United Church service

A package of material to be discussed at the AGM has been mailed to all
members.

At this meeting the primary business will include:
• A review and approval of the 2025 Audited Financial Statements
• An outline of significant activities, priorities, and challenges of
the Corporation for 2025
• The election of three Board members

For those members who are unable to attend in person, proxy forms are
available so you can designate a member to act on your behalf.

Book Club – Our next meeting is Sunday, May 3 when we will discuss The
Rebel Christ by Michael Coren. Christianity’s founder is often
misunderstood and misinterpreted. This book presents the real Jesus: a
rebel, a radical, and a revolutionary. Copies are available at the
public library, on Hoopla, and for purchase at in-person and on-line
bookstores. We will meet at 12:15 in Room 215, all are welcome.

Blue Bins - Thank you to everyone who stepped up to do the bins in April
and May. We are also booking ahead for the months of June, July and
August. This is an important fundraiser for our church and many hands
make light work. If you have students that require community service
hours, this does count and we are happy to sign the required paperwork.
If you would like to help but maybe don’t have a vehicle, that’s ok! We
have people with vehicles who could use an extra pair of hands.
If you are able to help, please contact Marg (ma...@theedge.ca,
867-444-8362).

Note from Stewardship: At our congregational meeting in February, a
budget of was approved which included $65,000 for local offering,
$18,000 for Mission and Service, and $1,000 for capital for a total of
$93,000 in offering revenue. To meet this budget we will need $7762 per
month. Actual givings to the end of March were $19,346 which averages
out to $6,449. Thank you for you ongoing support.

Mission and Service Story: Flowing Beyond the Banks

In Chipman, New Brunswick, along the Salmon River, community isn’t just
an idea—it’s how life flows. For over 126 years, Chipman United Church
has been woven into the heart of the town.

The congregation is small—mostly seniors with a handful of youth, four
of whom now help lead worship—and the choir is modest. But the impact is
anything but small. Each month, about sixty meals are prepared and
delivered through the LIFT program, feeding children, seniors, and
neighbours who can’t leave home. The church hall hosts community groups
and sports programs, and members pour hot chocolate at the Christmas
parade. Service here isn’t occasional; it’s a habit.

When some members could no longer attend in person, the church brought
worship online. What was expected to reach twenty people drew thousands.
Prayer requests now arrive by email, and a painting of the sanctuary is
being turned into cards to remind those who feel alone that they belong.

This is rural ministry: rooted, connected, and alive. Mission and
Service helps sustain communities like Chipman, keeping churches at the
centre of town life.

We can make a difference together. When we give to Mission and Service,
we help ensure that churches like Chipman continue to feed, care for,
and connect their communities. Donate today and be part of keeping this
heart of the town alive.
